IOWA CITY, Iowa -

A hug has landed an Iowa City man in hot water. An Iowa City man who thought a police officer just "needed a hug" faces several charges including assault on a peace officer and public intoxication.

Police said a 21-year-old man was arrested on Saturday. According to police records, the man ran up to the officer and stuck out his arms.

The officer told him to "get away," but the man didn't take the hint and embraced the officer.

When the officer told the man to put his hands behind his head, he refused. He was then handcuffed.

Just goes to show you - you're better off shooting the police than hugging them. At least if you shoot them, you can avoid leaving behind any witnesses.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

I don't blame the officer. If some stranger who appeared intoxicated came towards me with his arms stretched out, particularly if I had a holstered gun I would just stand there. He'd be on the floor drooling on himself.

we have another republican convert!

What I said is just common sense. Police officers' alertness has to be amped up to the near point of paranoia, but even if I weren't an officer and some strange drunk guy came at me with his arms stretched out, if I felt threatened by him, I'd respond appropriately.

This really just justifies police overreaction. They aren't soldiers in a war zone who aren't paid to think, or the Umbrella Corporation infested with zombies trying to eat you. They are people amongst people, working for money, and supposedly with a greater "word" than an average person. I doubt you'll find many police officers who act like they're doing bomb drills approaching a freaking staggering drunk guy. There's no reason to be as paranoid as you suggest unless there is an obvious and immediate danger.

aren't you the guy that's saying someone needs more hugs, yet here you are saying someone better not hug you?
