Tim Hortons wasn't actually started by Tim Horton. It was the Joyce family out of Nova Scotia. I remember Mr. Joyce being absolutely horrified when Wendy's decided to stop having the donuts made fresh at each store. They're now flash frozen and shipped out to the franchises.

*sigh* I miss Tim Horton's coffe. I visited Toronto this weekend and insisted on buying one before I even left the airport.

Oh, and if you're wondering why this silly Bermudian is posting in the Canadian forum, I'm Canadian/Bermudian. I only moved back here two years ago to help with some family issues.

You're always welcome to post here Catherine. So, when you say moved back "here", do you mean Canada?

"Here" is Bermuda in this case. I mostly refer to Canada as 'home" though I've spent about equal time in both countries.

I was born in Halifax. I moved to Bermuda almost immediately. Then at 14 I moved to Ontario and stayed there until I was 30. Now I'm back in Bermuda.

I consider myself Canadian far more than Bermudian. My current viewpoints were influenced most by my life in Ontario (Ottawa, Guelph and K-W).

Damn.... I realize that I just revealed my age....

Sorry about you being influenced by Ontarians, thats not your fault, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Actually, Tim Horton's was started by.... Tim Horton. It wasn't until a few years later that Ron Joyce became a franchisee and then a partner and took the entire venture to a whole new level. Much to our happiness. :)

Hmmm...serves me right for not checking the facts I guess.

My brother went to school with some of the grandkids and they certainly talked like Mr. Joyce started the whole thing. Of course, they were my icky little brother's friends so I probably wasn't listening all that closely anyways. They brought maple syrup while visiting us in Bermuda. I think that they were surprised when it went into the cupboard next to the stuff we smuggled back every summer.

mmmmmmmmmm Tim Hortons! Im in Columbus Ohio, and there is far from a shortage of it here, thank god!

One thing I will never get used to is the biscuit and sauce type thing breakfast at Mcdonalds. I tried it once and still feel sick thinking about it! Blech!

I do miss Ruffles Salt n Vinegar chips a lot and Ontario wine. Fortunately, extremely affordable prices and ease of which to purchase ..wine here kind of makes up for it!

One of my co-workers is going up to Michigan tomorrow, I asked if he'd bring me back some Tim Horton's. He asked me what it is of course, I said "donuts". Then he said "last time I was up there I noticed something called pasties" (he pronounced it pay-sties), and asked me if that was a Canadian thing, seeing as Canada is so close. Then I had to explain pasties.

I hope he remembers my donuts :( Maybe I should send him a link to the map of the Timmy's in Michigan?

When ever I'm flying from Toronto to NJ, I always bring home 6 maple donoughts for my family here. They are a huge hit.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Pasties? Aren't those appliques for certain body parts?

Hahha, and yes BermyCat, you just revealed your age. Here I was being kind and not mentioning it. You'd better be nice or I'll reveal other personal facts. Yeay for blackmailing!

I'm so thankful that once all this is done and I move to Maine that they do have Tim Hortons :) But their coffee kind of tastes like a dirty dish rag was soaked in it. Then again, I feel that all American coffee has that dish water/rag taste.

I-751 file: 11/07/11

NOA1 date: 11/10/11

Biometrics: 11/30/11

Approval: 08/17/12

Hold what you got and maintain.

Mmm...a nice hot cuppa Timmy's once I land and pick up my rental.

Then perhaps dinner at WHITE SPOT! Another Canadianism to be added perhaps should be "Triple O?"

Yes, I just went there! Anyone drooling yet?

I won't be visiting for another month, but I've made a little list of things to bring back since I likely won't be going to Canada for years:

-Smarties (the chocolate candy)

-Sensodyne toothpaste

-rain
