...and please watch it.

Try to find the longer version.

Perhaps the perspective gained will shed light on our current economic and environmental disaster of a planet.

Enjoy!

:star:

Anyone seen it?

After a few years I re-watched it last night, and it made even more sense now.

Wasn't An Inconvenient Truth enough?

How about movie where we tell the public they'll be dead before the movie is over? That'll get some attention.

It's quite different from An Inconvenient Truth because it focuses on the history of how corporations came about, and what they used to mean as opposed to know.

And tell me, didn't you cry when you saw the polar bear swimming to....nowhere?

:crying:

As far as your second comment, well, actually I have great hope that with raising awareness we have the power to create the world we want.

A community of people who take care of each other and the little planet/ecosystem we live on.

(Now, I await that hippie poster to show up, hee hee.)

We can only create change (write our own scripts so to speak) when we open our eyes, stop with the silly distractions, i.e. professional sports, reality TV, TV in general, video games, puzzles, etc etc, and get super curious about ourselves and our world.

Conservatives have conditioned alienlovechild to be defensive of documentaries.

Haven't seen it but will watch it. I just hope it isn't as based upon negatives as asked by one of the classroom students.

If you enjoy reading information on corporations, SpiritAlight, especially education regarding how corporations changed from product quality to marketing quality, I'd recommend Naomi Klein books, namely "No Logo". It's very insightful as to how business models changes, how corporations took those models, and the effects of what they do locally and abroad. Not just the most simple-minded factor of "goods and services".

Oh yes, that Naomi is brilliant, too.

I read most of that book and have left it along with many belongings upon moving here....the library has it though.

She is interviewed in The Corporation.

You might be interested also in anything from Adbusters, and a movie made by a local Vancouverite called Culture Jam.

Adbusters has been around a long time.

They went international a while ago...and possibly have gotten harsher over the years.

When they began, they were so earnest and I loved it.

Also based in Vancouver.

At least these people are paying attention to corporations beyond the simple "if its good for business, it's good for the country". We need to teach some of that stuff to people in the states, as we seem to be able to over-analyze polls, and over-analyze celebrities, and over-analyze every word that comes out of a politician's mouth, but not remotely analyze corporations and the things that goes beyond the trade.

I'll second that suggestion... I saw The Corporation (rented it at Blockbuster) a while back and thought it was quite well done. I really learned something about how and why corporations exist, and how they might be reined in if they get out of line. Sounds boring, I know, but it wasn't at all.

Got great reviews at www.rottentomatoes.com too.

Not surprising. What was the last movie putting a major corporation in a good light? If there are any, what's the ratio or good corporation vs. bad corporation in the movies?

My guess is most people have been spoonfed to hate big business almost from birth.

Here's a review you'll agree with.

Actually there were benefits and some good stuff being done by a handful of corporations (people) in the movie.

Do have a looky loo!

Wow 91%. RT is a pretty good indicator of a good movie, from my experience.

I gotta see it, myself, but I hope it has more of a Naomi Klein taste where it's more educational than simply critical.

I'll give away one part, the filmmakers do a "spoof" psychiatric analysis of a corporation (being that it is a "person" according to the law).

That was brilliant!

They speak of the history of how corporations came about and how they basically took over life as we know it....and changed everything.

Being that they are only accountable to their stock/share holders they are only in the business of making money, like a shark has to eat you.

And so "the bottom line" is at the cost of everything and everyone.

Enjoy!

Things can change if we decide that rules/laws need to change.

We have the right to write and pass our own laws (well not me yet, because I am simply a resident).

Obviously things are not working too well.

Ha!

:star:

Okay, one more part of the movie, Michael Moore bought first class flights for him and the CEO of Nike to go to Indonesia to visit his factory.

He refused, of course, and then....

admitted that he had never been there!!!
