hi guys, i was planning on booking a ticket (economy) this coming friday or saturday on northwest website. I dont know if this is the cheapest. Just have a couple of questions..

1. do they really require 50 lbs only per luggage? i remember before that my fiancee usually put 70 lbs on hers.

2. i know they only allow up to two carry-on luggage, i'm bringing a small luggage and a back pack but i also need to bring as a hand carry the x-ray i had at st lukes together with the vaccination sheet...o and also the brown envelope that my visa came with. will that be considered as another hand-carry?

3. any idea how much money i need to bring to pay at the airport, etc?

please enlighten me...i'll very much appreciate it.

If you go to www.nwa.com you'll find all the details. I think it's a max of 50lbs. I flew northwest internationally but because I also had a domestic flight I had to take less luggage.

Until very recently, Northwest allowed 70 lbs for travel between the U.S. and the Philippines. We just returned from a 5 week trip to the Philippines this past week and they have changed that allowance to 50 lbs. Overweight bags up to 70 lbs are charged an additional $50 (except during peak travel periods when the overweight charges are much higher).

AFAIK.

1) You are allowed 2 pieces of luggage each weighing a maximum of 50 lbs or 23 kg. Do note that if one bag is 70 lbs and the other is 30 lbs, you will still be charged for an excess of 20 lbs. Also, check with your airline if this still applies. The recent fuel crisis has really changed things.

2) There should be no problem if you would also handcarry your X-ray on top of your handcarried bag.

3) Check with your airline if the travel tax is already included in your ticket. Otherwise, the travel tax is around P1,620. Also airport tax is P750. This is paid before passing through immigration.

Overall, bring $200 for excess luggage and around P3,000 (P2,500 actually) to be safe. You can use the change from the P3,000 for snacks and some last minute pasalubong. Obviously, you can't use your pesos in the US.

You have received bad advise on this board. I know because I always fly NW For flights originating US 48 states going to Manila. 2 times 70 pound checked a 40 lb carry on + a personal item

http://www.nwa.com/travel/luggage/checked.html

Opps, my bad! Seems that they may have changed it for coach tickets. Sorry.

Definitive answer is always the airline website

Luggage Allowance

The luggage allowance is the maximum number, size and weight of bags that each customer is allowed. We have based this allowance on many variables that influence the maximum capacity of luggage on an aircraft. These variables include size of aircraft cargo compartments, dimensions of the doors, fuel requirements, typical number of passengers on board, and government regulations. Luggage will be weighed and measured to ensure that it meets the dimensional requirements under the allowance.

As a result, Northwest has established a standard luggage allowance that applies to all flights.

Checked Luggage Weight and Measurement

Luggage is measured by adding length, width and height to determine the total number of linear inches/centimeters.

Northwest will accept luggage up to a maximum of 50 pounds (23 kg) and a total linear dimension of 62 inches (158 cm) per piece.

Additional charges apply for luggage weighing more than 50 pounds (23 kg) or with a total linear dimension of more than 62 inches (158 cm) per piece.

For domestic and trans-Atlantic travel, the maximum weight accepted for any piece of checked luggage, including special luggage items, is 70 pounds. For trans-Pacific travel, the maximum weight accepted for any piece of checked luggage is 100 pounds.

NWA for coach, 2 checked luggage - 50lbs (free) but it shouldnt exceed 70 lbs or they wont allow it). You can have 2 carry ons too.

Im more worried about domestic here in Ph coz they charge a lot. I dont know how much at the moment coz they changed the fees last Sept 2.
