2 Years ago I went to the Philippines and my mom in the states called me and asked me to buy a Parol. I think that is what it is called. Anyway, its made of capis shell and Christmas lights and it was big, about 4 feet in diameter. What can be more fragile than that... I put it in a regular cardboard box and the "airline" placed a fragile sticker on it. And I prayed. When I got to LAX it was intact. Your dress will make it. Just have the airline place their fragile sticker on it and pray.

Rickie

Yeah thats what ive been thinking too. Maybe it will make it there safe and not crushed but Im still thinking of better way to make it more safe. Anyway, the box is all white and maybe people working at the airport will have a heart not to put it at the bottom of those other luggage they might think its a wedding gown inside it. Do u think the customs will still open it even if it already went to the xray conveyor?

Better bring your wedding gown here in the US ang mahal ng wedding gown dito I bought mine at the David's bridal for almost a thousand dahil may mga adjustments pa kasi at pag i-convert mo sa peso ang mahal na.

Im not going to hand carry it coz its too big. My bf told me Detroit is so big kaya mas mabuti daw na hindi malaki ang hand carry ko...

I am telling you, they do not care about your luggage. To make sure your dress is safe, and doesn't risk the chance of getting lost if they lose your luggage, you need to take it on the plane with you. Pack it in a garment bag. When you get to the US, take it out of the bag, hang it up for a couple of days to help the wrinkles to fall out. If you feel it needs it, you can try and rent a portable garment steamer -- like what clothing stores use to de-wrinkle clothes before they are put out on the racks. My dress was pretty poufy and heavy, and I successfully brought it to the US, and then back to Canada using the method I described above (6 different planes!). I jsut didn't want to risk it.

Hi Arleen,

I believe Cassie's suggestion is right. There are instances of lost luggages & you don't want to risk losing your precious wedding gown. Besides I agree with her that when it comes to luggage handling at the airport, they don't care about whether or not you put the label "fragile" on it. So I think it's a good idea to hand-carry it. Goodluck on your trip & keep us posted!

Would rather hand carry that precious white gown with me and let it sit next to me on the plane if its unoccupied I hope there will be less passengers on the day that you travel so you could at least do this for your wedding gown. i could just imagine the flight attendants broad smiles seeing your beautiful wedding gown seated next to you :) Good luck and best wishes :)

Ask the place where you bought your gown to ship it for you. That's what I am doing. They know how they have to pack it as it is common to send it off within the country anyways.

I would never want to have the hussle of running around with a bridal gown at airports :-) But neither would I wanna know it in the chcked in luggage.

WELL I WOULD SUUGEST WRAP IT IN A PLASTIC THE INTIRE GOWN EXCEPT THE PETICCOT... BETTER YOU BUY A STYRO BOX A STRONG ONE THE EVEN YOU SIT ON IT IT WONT BREAK THEN WRAP IT WITH PACKING TAPE... IT WILL JUST APPEAR LIKE A BALIKBAYAN BOX... IF YOU DONT LIKE THAT YOU CAN BUY LUGGAGE THERE IS ONE TYPE THAT IS MOULDED... THAT A BETTER OPTION THAN THE STYRO...

I was thinking of buying that kind of luggage too but Im afraid i wont find a luggage that will fit my peticot. The lenght size of it is about 32" so its really big...

It is always a great idea to bring your own gown, but however if this is big, and this will give you dilemma, I would advise you to just buy in the US.. You may think it will save you money if you bring your own, but if you think and analyze everything, it is more cheaper and less stress if you will just buy in the US.. And too, if you have a a lot of luggage, you may pay extra money for that.. And also be mindful that even if you meet required weight for the luggage, but if the length is too long, that will going to end you paying for extra also..

There are several sites that you can go to buy bridal gown, here is the link

When my wife and I went home to the Philippines for our wedding, I was holding the wedding gown. It was carry-on luggage. No way was I checking it in. I can lose everything else but no gown probably would be the worst thing to happen.

My wife's gown didn't have a long train so that was great because it wasn't too bulky. We didn't have it in a box either, just in that zip-up cloth bag (a big one). All the security people were wishing us good luck on our wedding because it was obviously the gown.

On the plane, I asked the flight attendant to hang it in their closet.

Back home, we had it professionally steamed to remove any wrinkles.

I'm just wondering, if this is allowed at PAL as additional carry-on baggage on top of your regular carry-on. I'm only 5", so with the half meter na train, siguro mga 5.5-6.5 feet lang ito. Sana naman pumayag na madala on top of the carry-on tapos sa closet nila iha-hang. Yung accessories at iba pa, pwede na siguro isama sa ibang gamit sa balikbayan box.

Pero pag alanganin siguro, baka pwedeng ipasok na lang sa loob ng balikbayan box, although bagong tupi yan, at pag malaki ang box na bigay ng gumawa ng gown, maghahanap pa ako ng ibang box.
