Hi.

Apologies if there is a thread already addressing this (I didn't find it via search - but then again my search skills might be lacking).

On question 10, My citizenship was acquired through:

[]Birth in US

[]Naturalization

Give # of cert, date and place issued

[]Parents

Have you obtained a cert of citizenship in your name?

[] Yes [] No

If Yes, give cert, date and place issued

---

Basically, was born overseas, came over with parents as a child. Parents were naturalized citizens, and I became citizen through them (naturalized). I was issued a certificate of citizenship.

Under question #10, should I check Naturalization and put the cert of citizenship #, date, place issued in the 1st box AND also check Yes under the 2nd question and duplicate the information on the 2nd form box?

Sorry, maybe I'm not understanding the 2nd part clearly.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'll call USCIS tomorrow as well, but any thoughts would be great.

Thanks

You received citizenship via your parents and not the naturalization process yourself. I would think you indicate via parents and then in part 2 include your information

YMMV

payxibka, thanks for the quick response.

I thought so too at first but in the instructions I-129F page 2:

Section3. What Documents Do You Need to Show That You Are a U.S. Citizen?

A. If you were born in the United States, give USCIS a copy, front and back, of your birth certificate.

B. If you were naturalized, give USCIS a copy, front and back, of your original Certificate of Naturalization.

C. If you were born outside the United States and you are a U.S. citizen through your parents, give USCIS:

1. Your original Certificate of Citizenship, or

2. Your Form FS-240 (Report of Birth Abroad of a United States Citizen).

It seems to imply part C (parent's) are for those who are born abroad to 1 or more US citizen parents which I'm not.

I'll call USCIS and see what they say but if anyone's ever run into this "problem" with filling out this section, do u have thoughts?

Thanks a lot!

payxibka,

Spoke with USCIS (and now I know what y'all mean about drones ha  )

Spoke to a lawyer who wasn't really wanting to answer question about I-129F considering that person didn't do the application, but she did mention something about derived citizenship and she sorta echoed what you same about naturalization.

So, I'm going to go with checking box that says parents and leave the naturalization box empty then I'm going to answer yes for have you obtained a certificate of citizenship in your name and put my cert#, date, place of issue.

Thinking about it a bit, shouldn't really matter I think - they can always see my copy of the cert. In this scenario, I'm a US citizen and that's all that really matters right?

thanks payxibka for the assist.
