I'm just wondering when I will need to file an affidavit of support.

I would also like to know if anybody can tell me where I can find recent 'poverty levels'. I'm having some trouble finding them for some reason. What I've been told is that I need to be making 150% above poverty level, which for two people is $17,000/year? Does anyone know if that information is correct?

Thanks!

We met in October 2007 and our immigration journey started in July 2008 when we filed for the I-129F Fiance Visa petition.

Read the guides first to get a better understanding of the process/requirements.

I was told that the affidavit of support gets filed with the information in package 3 when you receive it(I posted a similar topic). That it is also used for the consulate/embasy interview. As for the poverty guidlines it is 125%. You should check out the links that Karin und Otto posted, it should be able to clear things up for you. I found the links to be helpful to me. Good Luck!

Yes, you need to have things together to bring to your interview. Make sure it's notorized, and include all the attachments. Make a copy. Give the original package to the Consulate at the time of the interview. The only thing that's associated with package 3, is just checking it off of the sheet that you return to the Consulate, saying you have it done.

Thank you to everybody who responded to this :) I have spoken to several people since I posted this discussion and I've been told that the Consulate I'm going through in Casablanca, Morocco doesn't require the affidavit of support for a fiance visa. Thank you for all your help :D

Thanks for that information Elghazi2008. I wasn't aware of that. While there are many differences between Consulates, I think this is a huge one. Would appreciate anyone that has knowledge as to why this particular Consulate wouldn't require one when other Consulates deny people who don't make enough? Is it assumed that when you fill out financial information stateside, for the AOS, the same things are covered? Any knowledge someone could impart would be appreciated.

I really don't know. Those I've spoken to have told me that since I am only filing a fiance visa, I won't be required to have the Affidavit of Support for the Consulate in Casablanca. They said that the K-3 requires the Affidavit at the interview though. I wish I could give more information, but unfortunately, I'm not knowledgeable enough. I hope somebody can answer your question though :/
