Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva blamed the United States for the global financial crisis and said its financial bailout plan was unfair to poor people.

...

"They want to help the banks and not help the poor," Lula said late on Saturday in Sao Paulo during a campaign rally ahead of Oct. 5 municipal elections.

"Why give $700 billion to the banks and no money to the poor guys who lost their houses," Lula asked, according to local media. He referred to the troubled U.S. housing market.

...

"I'm not at fault if they turned their economy into a casino," Lula said in reference to accusations that lax U.S. financial regulations worsened the crisis.

That's a nice way of actually avoiding the issue about the American economy being a casino. He's actually right.

It wouldn't matter to me if Olmert said it. If it's true it's true, if it's not, it's not.

Does John McCain or FOX News have to say it for you to believe it? Or can you actually look at the issue presented.

I dunno - sounds to me like Lula is much more popular in Brazil than Bush is in America....

Date: Monday, September 22, 2008

Lula da Silva’ administration broke all support records since taking office in 2003, according to a public opinion poll released Monday by Instituto Sensus. When taking office the Brazilian president public support stood at 56.6% and last April (five years later) had reached 57.7%, but has since gained another eleven points and has reached 68.8%, with only 6.8% negative evaluation.

As to the president’s personal standing, it has soared to 77.7%, just below his highest in March 2003 with 78.9%.

"Lula has achieved the highest popularity ratings of a Brazilian president since we began with opinion polls in 1998”, said Sensus CEO Ricardo Guedes. The popularity is strongly cemented on the “good performance of the economy and the social programs”.

Perhaps Lula is another case of the pot calling the kettle black. He is right in YOUR opinion. But your anti everything because you are the only intelligent form of life in a country full of morons and idiots as you point out in mist every post. Maybe you could vote for Lula as a write in?

Nothing wrong with casinos - they are solid businesses and good corporate citizens.

When a casino fails, they don't ask the government to bail them out.

Ah, I guess you want G.I. Joe for every citizen, I suspect. Wave the flag, pray to god, never criticize the country. Another good ol' boy.

Good luck with that. :)

I am intelligent enough to know, however, only natural born U.S. citizens may become President.

Florida Casino Boats May Get Bail-Out

FLORIDA – As reported by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel: "Just as Broward County officials are considering whether to schedule a referendum to allow slot machines at racetracks and jai-alai frontons, they may have to bail out the gambling ships that sail out of Port Everglades because of declining business.

"Port administrators are warning the three daily cruise lines will fall more than $700,000 short of what they owe in dockage charges this year because of increased competition from places such as the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The port wants permission to reduce the charges rather than enforce what it views as increasingly unrealistic contracts.

"The problem for the port is expected to worsen if voters approve slot machines onshore. The port estimated in a memo sent to the County Commission's staff Friday that it could lose an additional $2.5 million in revenue a year because of slots.

"…Commissioners will decide Tuesday whether to set a March 8 referendum and whether to allow the port to renegotiate the contracts with SeaEscape, Discovery and St. Tropez cruises. The county has been crafting a deal with the racetracks and jai-alai frontons to pay local government up to $30 million a year in exchange for allowing slots.

"…The port estimates that St. Tropez will have fallen 190,000 passengers short of its promised annual volume and Discovery 138,000 passengers short when their contract years end next month. The port already has told SeaEscape that it must make up the $210,000 revenue shortfall it had when its contract year ended in November…"

If you don't like living in the US, you could always go somewhere better. That's the beauty of freedom. It gives people like you the opportunity to criticize and complain about everything. Don't fight for it, don't believe in it, just enjoy the benefits it provides. I also know that you must be born in the US to be president, but you can still vote for Lula if you like. He has as much chance of winning as any choice other than McCain or Obama. Since you will vote for neither of them, Lula is as valid a choice as Kim Il Jong.

Nice try, but not even remotely similar.

Reducing the docking charges to keep the ships from going out of business is hardly the same as giving them a taxpayer-funded check for $700,000.

You should then appreciate someone effectively using their right to complain and criticize things. Doesn't seem like you're that tolerant of other people's rights, only when it best suits your own agenda.

Also, at very least, if some LHC-disaster-like odds struck and Brian Moore became President, he wouldn't be denied because of ineligibility. Not quite the same.

Lots of 'em got whacked by right wing death squads and government disappearances in the 70s.

Still... Lula isn't exactly a beacon of right wing politics is he?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
