I hear all these people saying it's really important that both of us are at the interview, I feel confident enough about my case, I have had a tourist visa for more than 12 years now, have travelled to Japan and Europe for tourism and have entered and left the US more than 7 times, and all this made me really confident about the interview. But the day keeps getting closer and I'm more and more nervous... Should I tell him to just buy a ticket and come here? Is it really worth spending more than 1000USD on a ticket? Are they bound to deny my K1 if he's not there with me? Could they even CANCEL my tourist visa????

Checking the Embassy Information section for Lima here on VJ - under additional comments it says :"Highly recommended United States Citizen (fiancée/spouse) attend interview." Check the review section for some additional comments. Hope this helps...(sometimes more information is helpful on the nerves).

If he doesn't come to the interview and you are denied, what then? If it's possible you should both be there. On a positive note, they may not deny and may just setup a second interview and state bring your fiance next time.

There have been some couples on here that have gone through the interview in Lima without their Fiance at the interview and were approved.

However, there have been instances in the past where the Fiance did not come for the interview, the visa was not approved until they scheduled another interview for both to attend. They were then approved when both were there.

I know it's expensive but I would recommend that he attend. Rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks, It is also a very respectable excuse to see him! I was thinking I won't touch the subject until they do tell me to go back to the embassy with him.

This is quite correct. He should be there for this first interview even if he is on his deathbed or is dead. Do NOT monkey with ANY Latin American embassy/consulate, under any circumstances!

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Well I got my interview and I was approved!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sooo happy!!! everyhting was smooth. They were actually very nice with me. No pictures to show were needed. They only asked me for the affidavit of support, his tax returns and that's it. The consul asked me how lond have we met and if we are still communicating eachother. And also he asked me how did he propose?? After that, he told me: good luck and dont forget to speak to children in Spanish :).......I thought I was on a cloud!!!! just wonderful!!!!

Si, mannnnnnnnn!!!!! You are definitely one of the lucky ones. Even though Bogota and Rio (and probably Lima) seem well-run and are high-volume, meaning that they get the cream of the thin crop of consular officers, I would NOT recommend that anyone risk attending an interview at a Latin American consulate without the USC present. As for me, I will soon file an after-visa complaint with the DOS and with the Consul General in Guayaquil -- this is recommended by an immigration attorney who was a vice-consul in Caracas. He believes that my abuse was serious enough that I should file the complaint with both. Also, I will soon post a review on VJ that will make your computer explode. But again, Vicky, SI MANNNNNNNNNNNNN!
