Hi BH45,

Congratulations on passing your written driver's test in IL. Yes, driving is one of those skills that once you learn it, you won't forget it (though it takes practice too, lol). Good luck too, with your road test (if there is one), and eventually getting your IL driver's license too.

By the way, couldn't they just transfer your Canadian license directly in IL, without any testing required? I guess it doesn't work like that in IL, unlike NYS?

No road test...at least not this time around. I know my hubby had to do a written test to renew his license last week. I don't think road tests happen until age 75, or at least that is what a lady at the DMV told me today. This is so different from Canada. I've had my license for 30 yrs without any tests to renew. Please let it be the same here for me.

Congrats!!!

I passed my written just fine- I did study and read the book several times.

I was flabbergasted when she told me after the driving part (I had to do both) that I almost failed. I said "you're kidding right?" I have always prided myself on being a safe and courteous driver. She said "You drive way too fast" I said "but I was never over the speed limit" to which she replied "you don't have to be over the speed limit to driving to fast" #######?

I got my license but it still bothers me sometimes. I have seen the way people drive around here- they are fricking crazy!

That's what she meant by the way, she HAS her IL driver's license now...

ha! i could have failed the driving part too. i apparently rolled through every stop sign we came to (i drive standard). she didn't seem to care much though. i think it had something to do with the fact she was retiring in 2 weeks and we had a nice chat about the heifer at the SSA office.

fingers crossed i get a nice one when i go for my motorcycle license soon.

Awesome-Good Luck!!

I do have to say the DMV experience here was something. I was there for almost the whole day, there were so many people there. Very different that going where I used to live in Canada.

I was told by several people to go to the one on the West Bank because it is usually less busy and the people working are nicer. I ended up going to the one on Airline because it was easier for me to get to. Next time I will try the other one.
