I'm 33, don't have any kids and I still haven't been to Europe. And have no plans to.

But I've had a passport since I was a few months old.

that's because your parents kept sending you on trips and moving, but you kept finding them afterwards.

Indeed ginger. My parents traveled with us all over the Continent since I was 5 years old. Canada, US, Central and South America. So total BS that people don't travel with their kids. But then again, some will say that my parents are elite liberal communists or something equally stupid.

Why is that important?

It's more expensive and more time consuming to travel with kids is it not? Of course, the little rugrats don't need to go to school either while they are doing the grand tour of Europe. Seems pretty easy if you live in Europe.

Who said she has to go to Europe? She has time and again told us about how nearby Russia is, why hasn't she gone over there? Surely that would help her understanding of any potential threat that the citizens of the far reaches of the Russian Federation pose to her and her state. In relative terms, Japan, Korea and China aren't that far away either.

Of course they were :)

Seriously dude, give it up already. If world travel had been important to 'miss go getter' world travel would have been achieved.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

She didn't go to Russia because she could already "see it" from the shores. Then why go? :jest:

It's clear that international travel and learning about global affairs were never high on Palin's agenda. She is obviously an intelligent, ambitious, and resourceful person who, I suspect, could have managed to travel or even work abroad if she'd had any interest in it. (Hell, Russia's just across the way!) The fact remains that she didn't have a passport until her 40s not because she wasn't a pampered college grad but because seeing the world outside North America wasn't high on her priority list, and she chose to do other things. Not the best preparation for VP of the U.S.

This sums it up nicely... (from National Review)

“If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself."

It does mean your parents could afford it. No matter how small a budget you travel on, there are many who can't afford it. Mine never could, after the regular family visits to see their parents in India, there was little money left. I didn't even have the cash to go on Spring Break during college. I literally had no money to spare. It does happen, the condition of not having the money to travel with.

That said, if travel to Canada always required a passport, a lot more Americans from the northern states would have had them.

Are you kidding me? NY and Chicago and even New Orleans are kind of different from each other, but nowhere near as different as anywhere in the US and, say, Russia. There's no comparison. Let me be clear, I'm not chastising anyone in the US for not travelling internationally. I don't think it's a requirement for most people. However to be the VP or President, it's absolutely a requirement.
