Hubby and me are craving some plantain chips!!! The closest African market is 2 hours away and they don't do mail order. Have a list(website) of other stores, but don't know if they are reliable or have good products. Anyone know of a good website and care to share?.... :) Thanks... (F)

Wow! When I saw the name plantain.. I had to look at this post! lol I love them!!! (L) My fiance taught me how to make them and I get them all the time. But I make mine different (I don't use salt) I eat them the way they are, juss boil them. But for the chips I love them as well I get them from a lil store not too far from me. lol Wish the bag was a lil bigger though. Hope the site below will help!

You can look at this site: http://www.chifleschips.com/

I find plaintain chips at ethnic markets, west indian markets, caribbean markets, farmers markets and the health food section or ethnic section of grocery stores. I've never purchased them online, sorry don't have a resource.

Or any international grocery store. I've seen them.

If I want them, we just fry our own.

That is what we do as well. I order everything off of www.sams24.7.com It is mostly West Indian but there is tons of other stuff.

They are very reliable and have great stuff - including plantain chips :D The only thing about ordering off the net is shipping cost. It might be cheaper for you to actually drive the 2 hours to the market then pay to have something shipped.

Good luck! :star:

wow guys...thanks for all the info. :) Unfortunetly we live in a small town and there are no international or ethnic stores that carry them. Even the grocery stores rarely have fresh plantain. :( We made a trip to the African Market when hubby first got here...to stock up on stuff. But the plantain chips went quick! Wouldn't mind making the trip, but its a 4hr plus journey, and its hard being able to get away with our busy schedules. We wouldn't mind paying a little extra to have it mailed, just for the convenience of it. Aint that a shame!... Thanks again for the info...keep em coming!

(Uno...yummmmmmm flavored ones! )

Hispanic stores carry them also. They call them doraditos, patacones or tostones and they are either cut round or diagonally depending on the brand. There is a Philipino (Filipino) store in Oakland next to the Nigerian store which also carries a variety of brands. All else fails, when I go , :crying::crying: on that 4 hour plus journey, I can drop some off for you.
