maybe you should move to china.
Why?

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

I think it's a good idea - except that they should be paying EVERYONE not to have kids. Instead of getting this BS "child tax credit" it should just be a "child tax".

There's a study at the local University here, a prominent one, that says their graduate contributed 7% more to the state after they deducted all the investment the state had invested on them while they were in school. The state spends about 3-5% on one kid, and get 7% back from the kid. What a deal on their ROI, isn't it?
You consider 2-4% ROI a good deal? Christ. The tax payers can do better than that with a freakin' CD, and maybe even a good savings account. Where did you learn economics?

In terms of the economy, it essential is good. This is considering the massive amount of college students needing government back loands such as the federal subsidized loan. The difference in percent is small, but, when you have high volume, you have high margins. Similar to the Wal-Mart strategy, they sell as low margin with high volume.

Another thing that is beneficial, is the amount of people who are educated to make the right decision that could help in making decisions, voting, law enforcement, etc...The social values also increases as there are more graduates.

If you own a business, getting a 2-4% ROI is not good. However, for a government organization, it's very good. There are other reasons too. Even if their ROI is only 2-3%, we need to also consider the graduates involvement in help cleaning the community.

There is a child tax. It is called 'daycare'. It runs between $400-1000 a month for the first 3 years and then about $200-$400 until the kid is old enough not to kill itself being left alone. It's enough to keep me from having more kids because I like working.

Yep -same here!!! This guiy would love me - 2 master's degrees, one from Columbia, but I'm still poor so made the wise choice(not entirely willingly) to not reproduce at all. Note -'Well-educated' does not mean the same thing as 'well-off'. Over 30% of white women aged 41-44 with advanced degrees are childless - how about giving us poor teachers and librarians grants to have kids so we can pass on our superior intelligence?????

Sorry Patti,

But if you have a master in fine arts, sociology, history, english, or anything that is not engineering or science related chances are you will be poor.

A master in fine arts gets about 15k/year if you're lucky. Good luck in finding a job in the museum.

History (so many pursue this field, therefore, increasing laborer competition which will lower the salary range), sure, you will get paid somewhere in the 35k range if you get a job in the school system. Not good enough though.

A master in sociology will get you nowhere quick.

In English, it's good just like history majors. But, they don't have any technical skills besides correcting the dictionary.

Engineering and Pre-Med? Well, it's a tough major. Not everyone could get accepted into those colleges eventhough you enroll at the University. The reason, it's demanding on the student to know every single detail of the physical world. That's alot to comprehend. This leads to a lack of students from taking these routes. Thus, decreasing laborers which promotes higher salary because society needs them. Consider this ratio, out of 100,000 people there'll be about 50-100 who are physicians, lawyers, and Engineers. Not many. That is where you get the money.

The Bell Curve book that came a few years was controversial but it was correct in stating that there is a correlation between the lower the education level of the woman, the more kids she'll have. The sad thing the following generations have little faith in education and give up on attending school at a young age and later complain about limited job opportunties.

Even with a college degree you may worse off if it doesn't lead to job capable of supporting replacement level births, 2.1 kids per couple. A lot of college kids are told to just pick any major because they all will somehow lead to a satisfying career. That's not true and it's a little difficult to start all over again and get a different degree after the real world has slapped you around a little. Some liberal arts degree should come with warning labels so you'll be properly forewarned.

Best-Paying Bachelor's Degrees

Degree Average Annual Starting Salary

Chemical Engineering $59,707

Computer Engineering $55,946

Electrical Engineering $54,915

Mechanical Engineering $54,695

Computer Science $52,177

Accounting $47,421

Finance $47,877

Civil Engineering $47,750

Business Administration $44,048

Marketing $41,285

Liberal Arts $31,333

Lawyers may make money but does the U.S. really need to funnel our best and brightest into a field that produces nothing but lawsuits. Other countries function ok with far fewer lawyers and can we really claim there's far more justice in America than other countries because of all of our lawyers?

Have you seen Idiocracy?

Not yet but it's in my Netflix queue.

It's already happening to some extent. There was a study a few years ago showing that the average high school student today has half the vocabulary of their grandparents when they were in school. The same is true for top students and the "great" books they didn't read compared to previous generations.

I noticed that now most younger people won't watch black and white movies and one my colleagues (age 24) at work claimed he's never watched a movie older than the Godfather.

Can we just tie the tubes/give vasectomies to morons?

I concur. Pay morons to get vasectomized/hysterectomized. Problem is, there are morons out there that don't need the cash- according to them.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
