Don't think age is an issue. It's all in what makes you happy!

Hi gals! I am new to the site, and was trying to find posts from U.S. women filing for foreign men. I was hoping to get a kind of poll started: What country your man is from, age difference in any, how you met, etc.....

For myself, I am a little worried about the age difference. I am OLDER than he is. I know this is OK with men marrying women but any older gals snagged a younger foreign man with no troubles? Could use some words of encouragement from those who have gotten through the process without snags because of this. Is this age thing a real big issue? He is 21 and I am 35, what do you think?

Would love to hear from the women here and any advice for a newbie starting out, what were the biggest obstacles in your opinion? Thanks alot!

Hi,

I think you will be fine but need more proof for your relation...photos, emails...a lot of everything

Good luck.

Svetlana

Sometimes, depending on the consulate and the circumstances, a large age gap can be a red flag. It's not a reason for a denial in and of itself, but sometimes a large age gap is a sign that someone's in it for the green card alone.

It's one of those things that does anecdotally seem to come up more when the guy is significantly younger than the woman, because it's generally true (though not universally in every case) that the man being older is more common and that a guy being a good catch doesn't preclude him being old and out of shape (which doesn't mean that female beneficiaries are never fraudsters, just that age is not a useful proxy.)

That said, there are plenty of couples with a large age gap who get approved, so the important thing is to provide good evidence of your relationship. Talk to people going through your consulate, and document the bejeezus out of it.
