As an active duty servicemember for 16 years, I would like to thank all of those that came before me in service of their country. Memorial Day is a very special day that we should honor and thank those that served and sacrificed so that we may live the way that we do.

Happy Memorial Day!

Many of us wouldn't be sitiing here today if it weren't for the brave men & women who have helped protect our freedom. No matter what we may think of the US at the moment-we can't deny what all our veterans have done for us.

Happy Memorial Day!

Why is it 'Happy Memorial Day'? Here in Australia we have ANZAC day and it is held in reverence of those that have fought. Im just curious with the use of the word happy.

nice sister lisa,

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

We use the word "Happy" because it is a day of celebration and rememberance for our veterans. Sure, many do not work on this day and they are happy for that, but it's misguided. I am happy because I know people like my friend, Tommy Hebert, who is an ex-Marine and a Vietnam veteran. He lost his leg in Vietnam and took a lot of shrapnel but he is still alive with us. Others are happy for various reasons.

I was grocery shopping the other day after work and I was in my uniform and a gentleman approaches me and looks me straight in the eye and said "Thank you for serving our country, I really appreciate it." It is very humbling and you feel awkward because you don't know what to say but you realize there are hosts of people out there that feel the same way. For that, I am happy that so many appreciate the job we do each day.

of the best songs i've heard, still surprised it never took off like so many other patriotic songs. a very moving song, i play it every memorial day.

billy ray cyrus:

From the album "Some Gave All"

I knew a man, called him Sandy Cane

Few folks even knew his name

But a hero, yes was he

Left a boy, came back a man

Still many just don't understand

About the reasons we are free

I can't forget the look in his eyes

Or the tears he cried

As he said these words to me

All Gave Some, Some Gave All

Some stood through for the red, white and blue

And some had to fall

And if you ever think of me

Think of all your liberties and recall

Some Gave All

Now Sandy Cane is no longer here

But his words are oh so clear

As they echo throughout our land

For all his friends who gave us all

Who stood their ground and took the fall

To help their fellow man

Love your country and live with pride

And don't forget those who died

America can't you see?

All Gave Some, Some Gave All

Some stood through for the red, white and blue

And some had to fall

And if you ever think of me

Think of all your liberties and recall

Some Gave All

And if you ever think of me

Think of all your liberties and recall

Yes recall

Some Gave All

Some Gave All
