How do I cancel/stop the immigration process?

For those of you old timers that remember me, I am sorry to say that my marriage did not work out. Too many cultural differences between the US and Thailand. We won't go into that here.

My wife went back to Thailand about 10 months ago and left prior to receiving her permanent residence status. I flew to Thailand 2 times (once last year and once this year) to try and have her come back, but she would not come back with me. Anyhow, I filed for divorce early this year and do not yet have the final divorce papers. I expect them around January of 2009.

So, what exactly must I do to stop the immigration process for my soon to be exwife?

If she already has her green card then nothing. It will be good for 2 years and then expire. Since she will have lived a good portion of that time not in the USA, and she wont be applying for removal of conditions, it wont be renewed.

As I understand, she left before she received her Greencard, which means she won't be able to enter the US again without a Visa.

She got the GC in 2007. If she stays in Thailand, her permanent residence will expire on its own. If she returns and Removes Conditions on her own, she needs to prove the marriage was entered in good faith.

I assumed I would have to send a letter to USCIS stating that my wife has left the country, will not be returning to the U.S.A., and we have filed for divorce.

So there is no need to send the letter?

You can but there's no need. Her status will expire unless she files to remove conditions. She would need to live here to do that.
