Official: Cop commits suicide after stun gun death

NEW YORK (AP) -- A police lieutenant committed suicide Thursday, days after he ordered another officer to fire a stun gun at a naked, distraught man who then fell to his death, police said.
Wow - now there's some justice!!

No, that's a case of man who made two dumb and deadly decisions. The order to taser a guy on a ledge was dumb but it didn't called for a self-inflicted death penalty.

You mean (unlike child murder) you don't see comedy club material in this?

Depends. Was it a hit and run, or did I get caught? If I am looking at jail time, or losing my house and savings, then yeah, I'm just going cut right to the end and do myself in, sure. Screw going to jail.

You'd kill yourself instead of doing 3 months to 2 years in jail?

Just an example and this guy had been drinking, too.

"Hit-and-run driver sentenced to 90 days in jail

A judge Monday ordered a 25-year-old man to serve 90 days in jail followed by two years supervised probation after being convicted in a hit-and-run case.

Douglas County District Judge Robert Fairchild sentenced Joshua Walton, 25, for a 2006 hit-and-run that killed 22-year-old Kansas University student Ryan Kanost. During the February trial, witnesses had testified that Walton had been drinking before he drove off to meet friends.

“This is a tragedy that everybody is going to have to live with the rest of their lives,” Fairchild said. “All the court can do is do what I’m allowed to by law and what I feel is the best way to try to achieve the result of preserving safety and making sure to the best of my ability this doesn’t happen again.”

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson had asked Fairchild to impose the maximum penalty of two years in jail. Walton will serve that sentence if he violates his probation.

Nah, the cop more than paid for his mistake.

The kids in the freezer were already dead and lots of kids die at the hands of lousy parents but nobody cares until AFTER the kids are dead. I'm still waiting for a national story about minority missing kid that plays on for days. I guess there aren't any missing minority kids. Worse- if you aren't good-looking nobody is going to go out of their way to find your azz.

In CA, if you break the law whilst under the influence and kill someone, it's no longer deemed an accident but murder.

Be that as it may, my thought is, was the cop mentally disturbed which is why he tazered the naked man? Or did tazering the naked man make him disturbed (presumably because he was overwhelmed by guilt for causing the needless death of the naked guy)?

I guess it doesn't matter either way, but...

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Or even two weeks.

Should have been executed.

I would not have expected California to have such a sensible law. Edited by akdiver

I think it's the most honorable and reasonable thing he could have done. Let's hope the guy who actually fired the taser follows his Lt's example.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.
