I can just tell you this...

In my country I had a Internal Audit Manager's position, now I dont have a manager's position and I am making 30% more than in Venezuela. So that's not too bad, less responsability, less stress trying to adapt to a new work environment, new country, new culture, etc, etc. However, I feel confident that in maybe a year or so when I feel more confident about working in the US, I'll be able to find a similar job than what I had in Venezuela with more US $$$$.

when my boyfriend estimates my expected salary, it is almost a 50% cut in pay. I am not sure that I will be able to handle that. I realize the cost of living is a bit lower where he lives, but...gah!

And when I look up jobs similar to what I am currently doing... he is right! I am cruising for an ego bruising. :(

Oh...

but I forgot to tell you, that after taxes, and all deductions... I am making almost the same as in my home country. Also, having more responsabilities here than back home, well... I guess I see less of my salary than what I used to back in Venezuela....

my first job here I was paid $5.75 per hour for hotel front desk clerk. It sucked.

my second job I was paid $9.50 per hour, not bad pay, but the job sucked and they raked me thru the coals.

Now I'm working at a Domino's Pizza at $8 per hour but only 2 or 3 - 4 hour shifts per week. No where near pays the bills :P

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

$120k a year so i can say i got lucky 1st Married the most wonderful man on this planet and Landed a nice job in par with what i was doing in India, just more responsibilty. It took over a year, so many interviews so to everybody that's out there and still job hunting, be patient, take a course or 2 to update your skills( employers like to ask what have you been doing) at least you get somethign to tell them!!!

Good luck everybody!!!

My wife graduated from a college in peru in hotel & restraunt administration. They honor her degree here but cant seem to find a job that pays anything in that area. I don't know maybe its because she is a recent immigrant or what.

Unfortunately the hotel and restaurant industry is notorious for offering long hours and low pay all over the world. :( I have a similar background to your wife and I got out of hotels because of those two reasons.

Now I'm here in the US my darling hubby doesn't mind what, or if, I chose to earn money myself :luv: I still can't decide what kind of work to look for yet, or whether to go back to learning something new ... :D Of course I'll run out of my own exported money sometime or another and I don't want to have to rely totally on Kyle's money, even though he always says it's 'ours' now, bless him. (L) So I'm pretty sure I will get my ### into gear one of these days.:D Still, right now I'm enjoying the luxury of just being married to him and not worrying about work. (L)

All the best,

Sheila
