Now that I am looking over my papers before the interview, I have some questions about the Affidavit of Support......

1. My father is the co-sponsor and he did not use all caps when filling out his forms.........will it really be a problem???

2. I have been unemployed for one year now while living abroad because I am a stay at home mother, so on question 23 (my current individual annual income is) should I put $0???

3. On question 25, I only have tax returns for the past 2 years.............should I just leave the 3rd blank?? (My mother cannot find it when she looked through my papers back in the States)

Thanks for your help..........I am just getting paranoid here!

1. If it's blue or black ink and legible, that's fine.

2. Yes, enter $0 for current income on your I-864

3. Do you know your adjusted gross income for that year? If you earned money and filed a return that year, you'll need to enter your adjusted gross income. It's okay if your don't have the tax return if you already know the amount. But if you don't know the amount, you'll need to order a transcript from the IRS. www.irs.gov has instructions on doing that. It's free and pretty quick.

As a side note, you're filling out the I-864 as the main sponsor and your father did another I-864 as the only joint sponsor, correct?

Probably not, does it say to use all caps throughout the whole form?

2. I have been unemployed for one year now while living abroad because I am a stay at home mother, so on question 23 (my current individual annual income is) should I put $0???

It's the correct answer, so enter zero.

3. On question 25, I only have tax returns for the past 2 years.............should I just leave the 3rd blank?? (My mother cannot find it when she looked through my papers back in the States)

If you did file in 2007, then you need to get a tax transcript for that year from the IRS - you absolutely need to have it. If you did not file in 2007 as you were not required to do so:

From the I-864 instructions:

If you were not required to file a Federal income tax return under U.S. tax law for any other reason, attach a written explanation including evidence of the exemption and how you are subject to it.

Margot, I just read your reply seems we were submitting at the same time :)

If the OP had income in 2007 and filed and she just cannot find the return, are you saying she should not bother getting the 07 transcript?

Hmm... I thought she was saying they couldn't find her 2005 return... If she means the 2007, then she has to have a copy of the return or the transcript like you said. :)

 I see what you are saying, was just the way I read it, thought she was missing the 2007.

Yes, if that is what the instructions say, that should be fine.

They may ask you for 2005 anyway, I would suggest you order the transcript just in case.
