I am in the USA on a J1 visa (research fellow) and it will expire in two months. My current employer said they will renew it because they want to keep me, but I have been applying for other jobs as I want to leave the current job when the visa expires and work in another institution.

Question:

Can I organise a new J1 visa from a different sponsor while waiting for the current J1 visa expire. Would I need to leave the USA and re-enter the country. I have a waiver for the 2-year rule.

Any advice would be appreciated.

This is a family immigration website. That means people who are moving to the US permenantly, and applying for visas based on a family relationship. I'm afraid I don't know anything about the situation you're in, and I would suggest that other websites might be of more help to you.
