abortion or no abortion?

Is the morning after pill available in the US now like it has been in Europe? It wasn't the last time I was home.

Also, I hear you still have to go to a doctor and get a prescription in the US to get birth control pills while in Europe you just pop into the pharmacy and pick up a pack without a prescription. Hell, even in Dubai you don't have to have a prescription to get birth control pills. I think there would be alot fewer pregnancies/abortions if the morning after pill and birth control were available over the counter in the states. It's no wonder the States have the highest teen pregnancy rate in the Industrialized world.

I say if a person doesn't like abortion then don't have one. If you are against someone else having an abortion then sign a contract saying that you will financially provide for the woman to have prenatal checkups and then also agree to financially support the child until it graduates high school and finds it's first job.

The morning after pill is available, but you do have to have a prescription for it as well as any kind of contraception (that isn't a condome)....in most states. I don't know what those states are, but I'm pretty sure you can get it OTC in some.

Even having a prescription, you gotta hope you don't run into one of those nutty pharmacists that won't fill the prescription based on THEIR personal moral code....GAH!

In Canada you can get it over the counter. Just have to have a 5 min consultation with teh Pharmacist where he/she makes sure you actually have a contraception plan in place.. so you don't have to come back for another does.

I agree birth control should be more readily available.. not sure what that would look like - cause there are health factors to the pill, but it seems like having a prescription makes things complicated.

What I dislike about how you put this forth is basically you give two choices. for and against abortion. Excuse me, but what about pro-choice? The idea that the people involved should have a say.
That would be the "for" option.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

Condoms in my city are under lock and key at CVS
It used to be that it was the women who were under lock and key.

I love when MEN debate abortion....
Yeah - as if it is a women only issue.

That's what Hubby & I were saying... who CARES if people steal condoms.. steal away.. it might actually HELP matters :P

Well ultimately only a woman can decide if she wants to have the procedure. Sure a man can say he doesn't want to be a father/won't support a baby, blah di blah, but when it comes down to it, he can't force her to abort. And likewise, if a husband/boyfriend wants his wife/girlfriend to keep their child, he can't force her not to terminate the pregnancy. Only she has that ultimate last word.

Well, it's simple. I wrote a big paper on this for an ethics course (:

Women have complete choice whether or not to have an abortion - I absolutely and totally agree.

However, should they choose NOT to have an abortion, then they pick up 100% of the financial costs of that decision. As it was the woman's choice to keep, it is likewise her choice to pay. The man has no choice, but the man also pays no money.

This is how the man's interests come into play and are protected.

It's completely unreasonable for one to have all the choice in a decision and then foist off the cost of that choice to someone else. It would be like me deciding to buy a Ferarri and then making everyone else in my neighborhood pay for it.

guys please tell me if you agree with abortion or not and why. just needs idea for my class debate.

http://civilliberty.about.com/od/abortion/...le_abortion.htm

The links above all quote the same bible passage but come to different conclusions. Religious belief often influences peoples views on abortion so it might be useful for your debate if you introduce different interpretations of the same passage.

Personally I would never interfere with any woman's right to make her own decisions about her own life. I also question the right of any man who is not himself pregnant to have any right to interfere. I have never had to decide for myself, hopefully soon, nature will intervene so I am never faced with that decision. I do know that if abortion was easily, safely and legally available without fear of burning in hell, my birth mother would not have continued with the pregnancy that led to my birth. Knowing her circumstances at the time I believe thhat abortion would have been the best option for her and her other children. I'm glad I'm alive but if she had been able to have chosen abortion I would never have been aware so would have lost nothing. Both she and her other children lost a great deal due to an unexpected, unplanned and unwanted pregnancy.

The man had the choice NOT to have the sex that could lead to pregnancy in the first place.

It's half his responsibility, he should support his child. Period.

So did the woman....but if she gets the choice to not get stuck with the costs of a baby after the fact, then so should the man.

Think equity. What is equitable here. Forget about life and death and the bible and god and all this other nonsense, for purpose of examining this particular concept. In the face of one person getting all the choice, what is equitable for the other party involved.

While I agree that nobody else should pay for the upkeep of the child I would say the man does have financial responsability, after all, can I assume he didn't know what he was doing might result in pregnancy. Many might trie to use the agrument that she tricked him and said she was on the pill, but I never believed any man who told me that it was safe as he had had a vasectomy. It's my responsability to make sure I don't get pregnant unless I want to just as it's his responsability to make sure he doesn't get me pregnant unless he wants to be a father. I would hold both parties responsible for the upkeep of the child. That might make a few more people take contraception seriously.

What if the woman is fine with no support from the father? What if the woman wants to have nothing else to do with this man and can fully take care of the child on her own? I say, let her do it. Maybe it's better sometimes to cut ties that a baby would keep together.
