As my signature below shows I've been approved yesterday, and I've already sent in AOS package since July (I currently reside in USA) ...

(didn't know I could've sent them as one package...) so here's my question: Will things speed up now that I-130 is approved? Do I have to forward approval notice to NBC/MSC (where AOS is currently being held or will the approval atomatically be sent to them? not sure how the process goes from here...Thanks for taking the time to read and I'll understand if no one has the answer...just thought I'd ask...

No, since they are two different applications, this will not speed up your application process. It's like getting approved for AP and EAD, each application has its own timeframe. No, you don't have to fwd anything, they must know, it's pretty much an authomatic process.

I know this is a stupid question which has probably been answered, but once I-130 is approved how do they know at NBC/MSC (where I-485 is currently being held) that it's been approved?

that's exactly my question as well.... I asked about it in different post but never received answer from someone who had the same process...

my AOS is not showing on-line at all..

on last Tuesday (9/23) I had an InfoPass appointment trying to clarify things....

the answer I got... "it is less than 90 days so you case is not in the system yet, just wait, and they will know... "

I ask how they will know, answer: they have ways"

total waist of my time and useless IMHO...

AOS from B-2

12/09/10 I-751 filed

04/07/11 GC received

I guess it's one of those things we'll never know the answer too...I haven't had any "action" since I sent back RFE but case says it resumed processing...hopefully some news will come our way soon...if i find out anything about it i'll let you know...

They will match up the I-130 with all the rest of your documents. My paperwork was crazy (abandoned K-3 process before interview, had an approved I-130 and then applied for AOS from VWP) and they managed to match it up. I had no delays throughout my entire process. In fact, we moved pretty quickly through the system.

I know most people think USCIS is completely incompetent most of the time but don't worry they will put your paperwork together.

Nothing I say is legal advice. I recommend you consult a qualified immigration attorney for any questions you may have.

Why were the I-130s sent separately? They are supposed to be sent with the AOS package so that everything stays together and to prevent confusion as to where you are and what you're actually trying to do. M's I-130 was approved at the same time as his AOS, as it should be. I understand that it can work out correctly, but why would you risk it? Why would you sent it separately in the first place?

At the time I was unsure of the process and did not know that they could've been sent together...found out after I've already sent the I-130 (it was a few months after I've sent it in and saw nothing happening that I inquired about the process) so I guess you could blame me for not doing my homework  but God is good and it'll work out...

I did my homework ;)

reading that I-130 takes 180 days to be approved so we sent it right after we got our marriage certificate to speed up the process...

I-485 had to wait for my BC to find its way from the old country. It just happened that i run across nice person who was able to do it for me in couple of weeks.

But the I-130 was already in CSC.. so we sent AOS & EAD.... and ironically instead in several months our I-130 was approved in 29 days...
