Hi everyone! Just wanna ask, if any of you here has done their medical on the same day after a long trip from bus or plane? will this affect the medical result, like x-ray? for example, i will have a 1 hour plane ride, after dropping my things to the hotel, i will have my medical right away. will this affect my medical result?

i'm so worried now coz my friend told me that she was told to take the SPUTUM TEST and she was shocked. she was very healthy as always, then suddenly they called her the next day and was told to take the sputum test. she had an x-ray a few months ago also & she was clear. they were like 30 US applicants that day who took the test. how possible is that. is there x-ray really that high tech and sensetive? according to her also even others has brought along with them their past x-ray films (valid w/in 6 mos.) SLEC do not consider it. Another applicant who was shocked also immediately went to lung center & had another x-ray and she was negative there, she brought back the film to SLEC, but did not consider it either. Grabe naman sila, others even take the risk of doing another x-ray even if its not advisable just to prove their healthy, but they do not consider it still! SLEC was so MEAN!

Stop worrying so much....in the end...everything will be fine.

There is always the possibility that some of us will be so lucky enough to find an IDIOT technician that is having a bad day, had a sleepless night before and does not seem to be able to operate the equipment correctly.

But be persistent in your goals and you will obtain them...no matter what obstacle you find in your way...

Make sure you dont have a cough or colds that have been lingering for months..this can be a complete show stopper...i had a lingering cough when i went for my medical exam and interview, it somehow affected my x-ray and i was asked to cough out phlegm for 3 consecutive days, all were negative results. After, i was asked to wait for 10 weeks for the culture results....o boi...can't complain about the waiting and stuff because they are all part of the strict USEM system.... for those who will yet to undergo their medical, i strongly suggest that you consult your doctor internist for vitamins for the lungs, this could help you physically prepare for USEC ....

Traveling long hours have nothing to do with changes/findings on the CXR films. But if the applicant have cough/colds, that could affect and may show some haziness or possible infiltrates and anything that they see that is "suspicious" on the CXR, they automatically subject this applicants to undergo Sputum AFB test to rule out PTB. Even if you had been cleared by an Internist or Pulmonologist, and even if you bring your previous CXR films, SLEC will just do comparison studies of those films. This is their policy, they will not entertain CXR results from other facilities, but will accept those films for comparison studies only.

And there is really no such thing as "vitamins" for the lungs. There are vitamins (multivitamins and minerals) that anyone can take over the counter. For those who smoke, try to quit smoking. The best that anyone can do is to try to have a "healthy life style". Drink at least 8-12 glasses of water a day, rest/sleep, try not to stay up late because this may bring your immune system down, eat healthy foods. Filipinos/Asians have exposures to PTB and they can lay dormant, and once your immune system is down, then that's the time that this dormant cells/bacteria gets happy and you can get the disease manifestations. But with the advent of the Multi-Drug Resistant types of PTB, patients sometimes don't manifest any symptoms, that's why they (USCIS/CDC/DOH) are very strict with Pinoys/Asians.

To everyone: Good Luck on your medical and interview. God Bless.

Nah... worrying about the whole thing doesnt help much. ;)

I suggest, get a good night's sleep first. Coz when you get there, you wont get to rest since you'd want to finish everything that same day. Relax.... and chill. You'll need all your patience coz you'll be falling in line a lot.

Ermmm during HIV testing, you get to watch while other applicants' blood were being taken hahaha. If you are scared of needles, good luck... hehehe :)
