But a valid one year extension notice, took over a week in contacting our governor, new immigration officer, and the head of the DMV before they would issue her a renewed license. I assumed her immigration status was in their database, and went to exactly the same agent that denied her. Showing him her original certificate, and a copy of that plus her driver's license. He said when her license expires, all she has to do on her new application is check the US citizen box. Asked if she has to provide proof of citizenship at that time, he said no, just have her check the US citizen box.

What I did not ask, if what' happens if an illegal checks that US citizen box, thought about it, but just said thank you and left.

Here is a tally of proof of US citizenship.

Her employer, wanted to see the original certificate and made a copy of it for their records.

DMV, no proof required, just check the US citizen box.

Voter Registration, no proof required, just check the US citizen box.

Social Security, Want to see the original certificate that you can take back with you and will accept a copy of it.

Department of State, Want to see the original certificate and will keep it even though their approved agent is shown the original with an extremely clear full color copy of it, but will send it back first class mail with no proof of you receiving it.

Think we are finally done now. Oh, did show it to our German Shepherd dog, he sniffed it and told me he would let my wife in the door now. But I asked him where his certificate was since he came from Germany. He just lied down and put his paw over his face.

Unless citizenship is required for her job (highly unlikely), her employer is not entitled to demand to see it, let alone make a copy of it. All they are entitled to see is proof of identify (such as driver's license) and proof of entitlement to work (such as an unrestricted social security card). Edited by akdiver

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

State dependent issue above, an employer can be fined $16,000.00 bu our state for hiring an illegal, makes them paranoid.

Sure they can. However, they have no option with respect to which documents to accept in relation to form I-9. First thing in the instructions: Employers CANNOT specify which document(s) they will accept from an employee. If they are, they are acting illegally and should be reported as such. No big deal and don't want to bite the hand that feeds you. She did get letters of congratulations from the higher ups that was nice, pay increase would have been nicer, ha, congratulations is cheap. She did progress from that DEA or is that DAE card, can't remember to a condition permanent resident, to a permanent resident, then to a US citizen with the same employer. She was called in before her conditional card expired so brought in her one year extension they did not understand. Ever try to make excuses for the USCIS? That required more proof that we did everything on our end along with printouts of their excessively long processing dates.

A lot of other people would love to have her job. Have to keep that in mind as well rather than getting too arrogant.

You can still report them anonymously if you don't have the guts to do it properly....you know, do your part to fight illegal discrimination against immigrants.

...and it's no wonder why this country has gone to the shitter.

Not a question of guts, question of complying to their wishes and really no big deal. How many times did I have to use my kids and my own birth certificate to prove who we are? Can't even count the number of times.
