Hi All,

I applied for my citizenship on 22nd September. The packet was received on 23rd.

I had a question regarding travel outside the country during the application process.

I assume it is going to take a good 8-10 months for me to finish the process. I was planning to take a 1 month trip to India during the process in December. Is that a bad idea ? Do I have to notify USCIS again when I am back or how does it work ?

I assume I will be finishing the FP within USA soon.

Any advice appreciated.

Regards,

Neel

You will have no problems travelling while you are awaiting your citizenship because you have your 10-yr GC for re-entry into the U.S.

The only problem you may have is that your fingerprint appointment could end up being booked for the time you are out of the country. If you have someone who could inform you when the fingerprint appointment letter arrives, you can deal with the situation then. If your fingerprint appointment is going to be while you are away, you can send in your NOA requesting another appointment.

That is only true if the USCIS tells you they will want a repeat of your fingerprints, if taken within the last 15 months, they may not, but won't tell you if that is what they intend to do. So you are left hanging, again. Wife's prints were taken just ten months before our application for the N-400, call that our application, because while we are two, we are just one family, but they still wanted that 3rd set. Only consolation for us in this respect, we knew within about ten days after they received our application, they did want that 3rd set of prints, even though we did not know why.

Can only conclude that certain folks in the USCIS do not keep up to date on their own procedures.
