Confused

I filed the I130 at our consulate for my husband on Sept. 15th. We were told to come back and check on it, and we did. The officer said it wasn't ready yet because it is still in Washington. I thought all the work was done by the consulate and nothing went thru the USA. Am I wrong? Is it normal for applications to be sent to Washington or is it something they only do for certain apps?

Can someone who has been thru this stage of the process please give some info?

I'm probably freaking out for nothing, but some advice would help.

If I remember correctly they have to perform the Adam Walsh Act background check with the authorities in the USA. When I submitted the I-130 they said average processing time is 2 weeks, but it ended up taking only a week.

They said it in a confusing way. It's the background check not the actual petition being processed there. Hopefully it won't take much longer!

Thanks soooo much! That makes sense and puts me at ease.

When we filed, the officer said 2 weeks, but we realized that it would come during a time when the embassy will be closed for the end of Ramadan, so we decided to check early. Now we are supposed to go back on Ocotber 8th and check again, which will make it just over 3 weeks since we filed. Please pray for us that it comes thru!!!
