I like hitting the road early, no one else is up,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

AHH! It wasn't a 14 hour drive it was a 17 hour drive!!! It was insane going up because we did it on 3 hours of sleep, coming back wasn't so bad.

My son is depressed again, I guess that's going to happen each time.

I shot a gun for my first time, my mom and uncle were already up there hunting and stuff, they finally convinced me to shoot a gun. I never really liked shooting guns but it was actually kind of fun. Then I tried to shoot a partridge and I missed. I guess that's good for the partridge. Then we saw a snake and it had been run over by a car and it was crawling slowly with its guts hanging out, and we euthanized it with an ax. Then I befriended a beaver close to our camp and a duck too. Seeing all of my family was great, though I wish we all had more time to spend with each other.

This all makes me sound kind of rough, but I am not. In fact I used the air pump to fill up air mattresses as a hair dryer, and I made Mike put the worms on my fishing hook.

Oh and the border near Kingston is probably the fastest border I have ever seen in my life. But I guess it all depends when you use it, everyone was very nice both ways.

Glad you had a good time, sorry to hear your son is depressed again. He will get over it soon after he settles in. I know I get that way too after I go and come back.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Shite. I did not see this. Tonight we shall talk.'

I'm glad you guys got nice border guards. The one I got on my way back to the US after Labour Day Weekend was a chump! I handed him my GC and passport and he was like, "I don't need your passport and when you coem through the US border again, just give us your green card.."

I felt like saying, SON OF A B! What if I stole this green card? Don't you want to know who I am???

Thast funny!! When i came back to the USA through Toronto (plane) I purposely just gave the POE chick my greencard and she demanded my passport, lol

You know what I think is REALLY weird. All of us are kind of used to the 'no particular guidelines or procedures' of U.S. immigration. - but - even just looking at the examples above - is it just that they don't have any particular rules about what ID they will ask for, or is it just horrendous training of these folks.

Either way - it's not right.

I'd actually like to know that as well. Do they not train them to follow the same procedures? Do these BP officers make the rules along as they go throughout their days? I am sure they are taught to hassel people. It was funny though because on Labour day Weekend the line up for the border was SUPER long. I waited for an hour and when I drove up the guy asked me, "Are you canadian?" I said "yep!" and he said, "Okay! have a nice day!"

And here we are..combating terrorism..one canadian BP officer at a time. haha
