You can keep the maiden name on your passport. But, your visa will be issued based on your name on the passport.

Hey there,

Let's see if I can share some wisdom with you, I just recently got both my PCC, from the passport office and the commissioner’s office.

For the letter you were mentioning, you will need a letter from your husband, you can draft it up and email it to him, and he can sign it, scan it and email it back to you. You can print that and take it, they will accept it, as they accepted mine.

The letter should say that he is requesting PCC for you, his wife, as it is requested for visa by the US consulate, just as detailed as possible. There is an additional list of things needed, I have mentioned those below.

It’s absolutely retarded, because the whole process of 2 PCC stinks big time, yes, and you need 2 PCC.

One from the passport office and the 2nd from the commissioners.

It’s listed on the Mumbai consulate website, everyone migrating to the US from India needs 2 PCC.

It’s a major waste of time and effort, very frustrating.

However, having said that, for anyone who migrating to the US permanently has to have the 2 PCCs done.

It’s stated clearly on the Mumbai consulate website.

Allocate at least 2 months for the whole process.

For the PCC from the passport office, its best handled by your local passport agent, they do all the filing. Than the case gets transferred to your local police station, after that a pandu comes to your house and verifies everything. It’s the same process as getting a new passport.

For the PCC from the Commissioner’s office, this is a pain to get. First you have to go and acquire the form from the Commissioners office near VT behind Xavier's college. After that you have to fill it and get a society letter from your building, copies of your passport, copies of your ration card, driver's license, electricity bill, photo, a demand draft of rupees 100.

All of these documents have to be attested by your bank manager or someone who is authorized to attest. Submit these with the application form to the Commissioner’s office, than your file gets transferred back to your local police station.

You have to personally go and check with your local police station, perhaps a week after submission as they do not care.

Again at the police station you have to submit copies of everything along with your photograph.

Than after they approve, they send your file back to the Commissioner’s office, after which you will get your police certificate.

I filed for my PCC from the Commissioner's office in the first week of August; I got it mid September after numerous trips to the commissioner’s office.

After a while all the pandus there knew my face.

But look at the bright side, once this is over, it’s over for good. Once in a lifetime experience.

The reason I went through all the trouble of detailing this out, is so that no one goes through what I have been through, make sure you share with other people who need help as you do.

Total cost of the 2 PCC = rupees 300 + rupees 100 + agent fees = approx 1500 rupees.

Cost of frustration handling this = $1,000,000.

Best of luck, you will need it.

Kurt.
