Hey All - Happy Wednesday! We had a scary thing happen last night: My husband went outside to shake off the table cloth and realized that someone had tried to break into our house. The screen door had been taken off but they didn't get in. The police came and told us what we could do and took a report. Later on, we were upstairs and my hubby said, "Call the police back - they tried to break-in upstairs too. They cut the lock on the door. ":o:unsure: Fortunately, by some fluke, I had put a wooden pole in the sliding glass door jam to lock it. If that hadn't been there, they would have gotten in. So, this morning before I had to go to a drs appt, we dropped $97 at Home Depot on motion-sensored flood lights, padlock for our gate, a new sliding glass door lock, a sliding glass door security bar, et cetera, et cetera.

We're very nervous because this has never happened in our little neck of the woods.

Ash!!! Welcome back!

I hope you all have a great wednesday!

That is scary Staashi!!! I'm glad you are okay that they didn't get in.

Gabi, love those big boys Mehdi and Ayman... those are cute pics.

alright well, here I go - baby is in the cat food again. eeewwww....

Poor Ayman, Mehdi tried to eat his feet on at least one occasion during our time in Seattle. Mehdi loves his own feet, and seems to enjoy mine as well. Maggie's dad says some day we'll be hearing about him on the news.

At least Amirah wont have to worry about hairballs now :D

That sounds fabulous! I may want that just for myself, but will gladly share with them to make them nicer and willing to send Ahmed's visa already :)

Sour Cream Pound Cake

1 c sour cream

3 c flour

3 c sugar

1-2 tsp (to taste) vanilla extract

6 eggs

¼ tsp baking soda

1 c butter (softened)

Preheat oven to 350F. Beat butter and sugar together. Add vanilla and then eggs, one at a time, beating for about a minute after each one. In a separate bowl, combine baking soda and flour. Sifting is not necessary, since this is meant to be a dense cake, but a toss with a fork helps even the distribution and incorporates a little air. Add the flour mixture and sour cream alternately to the butter/eggs/sugar mix, beating for about one minute after each addition. Generously grease 2 loaf pans or a bundt pan and pour in batter. Tap pan on hard surface to force air bubbles to rise. Loaf pans bake for an hour, bundt pan takes slightly longer. Test with toothpick for doneness, as it may take little longer to bake depending on your oven. Once cake has cooled enough to handle, flip onto a serving platter and top with glaze. Allow glaze to soak in before serving. Great for dessert, breekie, or snack. Also tastes good toasted and topped with jam or preserves.

Glaze

½ c butter (melted)

¾ c OJ

1 c sugar (granulated or powder)

You may wish to experiment with proportions on the glaze to suit your liking. This makes a very thin glaze, but you may want to thicken it with cornstarch or reduce the liquid content to make a spreadable paste.

We just had to do the same thing this past week!! Only we didn't know at all, immigration lost our physical from February so we had to restart everything....man oh man it was expensive and we only had 3 weeks to completed it :crying: Chick pox shot was a killer in the pocket!!!

Thankfully, Ahmed's chicken pox shot was only $14. When we called the clinic they told us $90, but when we got there the clerk only wanted $14. We celebrated by having some chicken McNuggets for lunch.

Gabi you're killing me with these pics....LMAO!

There are more, but it takes awhile to add the text. A certain someone tries to limit my keyboard time :P

Gaby, thanks for the recipe. I might make it tonight, as my husband loves these things - and so do I. :hehe: I was even thinking that with the glaze, I can sub key lime juice for the OJ - give it a more Florida flair.

I dunno but there are days when I am so limited on time that I come to VJ and I don't even read anything but the MENA forum. Maybe that makes me a bad person or something or as though I don't care about the other areas, but I just don't have the time to weed through every single post there. I'm going to miss our MENA daily threads :( but I guess the Captain has spoken :D

I don't think we should be punished for the acts of others. Sad. I feel bad for Ewok and others that had to make those decisions. It was fun while it lasted.

MENA is typically the only place I check...Oh well, there is always Expats!

I'm the same way. I read MENA first, then to the other forums. I don't think it was the Captain's decision to move the daily regional threads. I think the rules on moving threads are being worked out among the mods and organizers. Guess we'll see how it all shakes out.

Gaby, thanks for the recipe. I might make it tonight, as my husband loves these things - and so do I. :hehe: I was even thinking that with the glaze, I can sub key lime juice for the OJ - give it a more Florida flair.

mmm, I think the key lime would be EXCELLENT.

Good Morning, Happy Hump Day!

Starting to think I need to send cookies or something to Cairo to make them get done with this already!!! Having moments of frustration this week, alot of them.

Hope everyone has a great day!

I think they like candy more than cookies LOL

i hope that you will hear good news soon Tina

you are in my prayers (F)

Thanks HG! Have you heard any news yet?

Note to self: Pick up and ship 4 tons of candy to Cairo ;)

Nope we didn't get any new news yet

Nothing's impossible . Nothing's unreachable .When I am weary you make me stronger

This love is beautiful .So unforgettable . I feel no winter cold when we are together .

Will you stand by me ?!!!Hold on and never let me go .

Will you stand by me?!! With you i know i belong . When the story gets told .

When day turns into night .I look into your eyes . I see my future now .All the world and its wonder

This love wont fade away. And through the hardest days . I will never question us .You are the reason my only reason.

I'm blessed to find what i need in a world loosing hope. you are my only believe .

You make things right every time after time.....

Will you stand by me ?!!!

I love you so much and i miss you so much more .
