Hello. I am new here and I got a question I hope someone can help me with. My fiance who lives in Japan once lived in Canada for a few years, and because of this she needs a police clearance from Canada as well as Japan. My question is, I am wondering if she needs to get one based off of her name and birthdate (which we can get from a police agency in Canada), or if she needs one based off of her fingerprints, which we need to get from the RCMP (that one takes a while I understand).

Most people I talked with said usually it is based off of name and birthdate that she needs. I'm wondering if anyone had this before or can help me.

Please let me know, and what is the first step to get that. We are currently waiting for her packet to come in the embassy.

thank you

Wes

Agree with Len above. If a Canadian citizen, you'd only need fingerprinting done if you had a criminal record. Otherwise just a Canada-wide name check. Remember, you only need a police report for countries you've lived in for more than a year since age 16.

While some guidelines say a year... others say 6+ months.

We were told (by the Consulate) we didnt need a PC from AUS even tho Russell lived there for 9 months but the CO said he should have one. The only reason she let it go was because we had asked and were given the wrong information.

Better check... and then double check. ;)

Actually I believe it is the other way around... The official guideline is 6 mos., but some consulates are optiong for domestic at 6 mos. and international at one year.

YMMV

Hello, thank you for the replies. I called a visa hotline or something (a pricey one) and they told me that I need to get it through the RCMP, which right now is at about 120 days. but now my question is this......

My fiance called her police agency to inquire about obtaining fingerprints, because she needs to get them to send to the RCMP. The website does not say anthing about an application, but the police officer in her country told her that people turn in an application to the police agency in order for them to give fingerprints.

What we did is faxed a letter to the RCMP to request an application. Will they send us an application? Do they send applications for this? I am confused.

I told you to check the RCMP website. The forms are there.

WZURU,

We called the Canadian Embassy in Japan and they sent out the application for Police Clearance.

You must wait until you get the NOA1 from USCIS before you can take your fingerprints in Japan. You need to make sure which police station to go to in Japan. We actually printed the notice that we got from the USCIS site that showed that they were sending us the NOA1. I faxed it to Japan and it worked at the police station. They put her fingerprints on the application.

We sent the application to the RCMP with the $15 that was required at the time. If I remember correctly, I think that the Canadian Embassy in Japan not only sends you an Application to you but it also encloses a letter that states that the Japanese police do not normally sign the application. I believe that we enclosed this letter with the application we sent to RCMP.

It is supposed to take about 4 months to process and send back the PC to your fiance's address in Japan. I believe we got ours back in 2 1/2 months or more. Make sure you fedex it to the RCMP. There is less stress knowing that it got to the right place.

My fiance (now my Wife) sent the completed application to me and I Fedex'd it to Canada for her. It was easier to deal with sending the $15 and cheaper to FEDEX.

The best to you,

Matt

I've got to get a police report from Canada too. I've decided to fly up there next weekend and have my fingerprints done electronically. That way the RCMP run them within 72 hours and the report should arrive in 2 - 3 weeks. They'll only send the report to a US or Canadian address if you go the electrontic route so I'm having them sent to my fiance in the US. You just have to fill out a form allowing them to release the report to someone besdies the applicant.

Thankfully getting a Bermudian police report is hassle free. You just take ID to any police station and fill out a form.

Which form is it that we need?

I found some on the rcmp website, but I'm not sure which one we need for her to get her fingerprints in Japan.

is it RCMP GRC 3584e - Consent for Disclosure of Criminal Record Information?

no one will call me back either from the RCMP.

thank you.
