Do people filing for the CR1 visas also get the "packets" from the embassy that everyone seems to talk about so much? I thought I'd filled out all the necessary paperwork by now and that I was only waiting for the interview notification and instructions for the medical exam.

Could anyone clarify? I can't find the information from searches so far. Thanks!!

We're waiting for package four also. It contains info for your medical exam and the interview date. As far as I know all the paperwork for IR-1 and CR-1 is done at the NVC level. I believe it is fiance visa applicants that still have paperwork they have to submit to the embassy. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong

Packet 4 will contain letter with interview date, instructions for the interview (what you need to bring), info about getting police certificate/s plus all the forms/info for the medical. If only DS-230 Part I was submitted to NVC, the packet will also contain Part II to be filled out but not signed until the interview.

All the best

HumanUnit,

The packet system is long gone but the terminology remains in use although it is becoming increasingly obsolete, particularly in the case of immigrant visas.

These days packet 3 is essentially the visa application material and packet 4 is essentially the interview material. How the materials are divided up between the two packets varies from consulate to consulate. In the case of immigrant visas, where some of the visa application materials are requested by and submitted to the NVC and other materials are submitted to the consulate, you will sometimes hear of a packet 3.5.

Thanks for the clarification, everyone. OK, so I suppose I'm looking at a couple of months before I get this mysterious packet! And it sounds like it's going to include a lot of stuff that I've done already - we already filled out the DS-230 and got the police check, as per their instructions for that form. I suppose the only thing left now is the medical exam (hoping, hoping, hoping!). I just hope we get an interview sometime in September because that's when I have to move back to the US anyway.
