Where did you see this info?

The documents I received from the Consulate didn't state anything to that effect and all the information I found on VJ, as well as NVC, says that if you don't have a criminal record, you can contact the local police and ask them to do a Canada wide search on your name. Make sure that the report they give you states that they've checked through CIPC. If you have a criminal record, then you need to have the search done with your fingerprints. I didn't have to do that so I'm not sure, but I think you have to contact the RCMP for that. I'm sure somebody else will either confirm this or correct me.

I was told this through the local police as well as the RCMP. Perhaps its just for residents of Montreal. This was just for a police check with no record.

I am from Montreal and when I went to my local police they referred me to another company that does that kind of security checks. I had to go downtown and it's a small office in a tall building.

It took them 2 weeks to send it to me by mail.

I don't know if your local police gave you the info, but if not I can check in my files tomorrow to give you the name.

That's odd. I live just East of Montreal and had no trouble obtaining it from the local police. Hopefully somebody else will be able to provide more information on this.

Yes, because I just called them within the last 2 weeks and thats what they both told me over the phone.

I think the offices in Montreal might not do this anymore since there is other agencies taking care of it. In the burbs it's different.
