Calling all those AOS'ers from NYC

Hi there, I know there is a timeline function but I often find it difficult to navigate and understand. I'm interested in chatting with others who are filing to adjust status that live in NYC. I've heard several horror stories about people waiting for 2 to 3 years to receive their GC. I've seen people in other regions apply and get approved in 6 months or less!! As I am considering a move in the next year or two, I'd like to know how long of a wait I'm in for. I know patience is a virtue and I should've learned my lesson with the whole K-1 thing, but the thought of dealing with and waiting on the USCIS for the next two years is gut wrenching...I digress. This is the roll call...who lives in NYC and is applying for AOS?

From the start of 3/10 until 5/24, will all the rfe's and screwups, heck fire I'd say you're doing extremely WELL!

At least your actions have resulted in their reactions. And that's a good thing.

Hope mine goes as fast!

Cheers and best wishes!

NYC has improved tremendously over the past two years to my great surprise. I started the entire AOS process on April 18th, 2005 and I had my interview on March 13th this year and I was approved. It is not as bad as you hear, it seems to me that they have taken great pains to relieve us of that burden.

All the best with your application process.

We started the AOS process in October 2005 and have our interview June 7th. It took about 8 months but given that this is a huge port of entry (NYC), I think that time is very reasonable. We are hoping that we get the GC after approval in a few weeks and not have to wait a few months as I have read some posts from NYC couples who waited longer than a few weeks to get the actual green card.

Take a look at our timeline below.

We are from NYC and our case was transferred to CSC earlier this month. We are hoping it won't be too long before we hear something about our case. It seems like a lot of New Yorkers are being transferred.

I've noticed that the timelines for the NYC office have been getting drastically shorter, so I think a CSC transfer might not be a huge advantage in terms of wait time (especially since CSC processing times seem to vary quite a bit for transferred AOS cases). We are definitely hoping to go without an interview though!

We live in NYC and my husbands AOS case was transferred to the CSC on May 17 and has been touched 3 or 4 times since then, most recently today. We are hopeful to be approved without an interview just to avoid the hassle. We have been very lucky, with smooth processing so far. We sent the AOS/EAD/AP package in early March, he had biometrics in early April and by mid May his EAD and Advance Parole were approved. Our biggest concerns were his ability to work and go back to Canada so we are very happy.

Good luck!

Please view my Timeline. In brief, filed mid Oct, interview June 12 at Garden City (even though living in Queens).

Very acceptable.

I will not have used my AP my the time I get my GC. So I would suggest weighing up whether it is worth paying for an AP if you and spouse have no firm travel plans. However, it is always nice knowing you can depart the US in the event of family reasons etc.
