Reasons for Posting Political Threads

I set off a little firestorm there, oops.

Here's another reason I post in political threads: if a lie is repeated often enough, people will begin to believe it. I post to refute lies.

For an example of this, people still believe Saddam Hussein was in league with Al Qaeda.

Yup that's a fallacy known as "argumentum ad nauseam", which as you said is the belief that stating something over & over again will somehow make it more true. It's very common in politics, but each party accuses the other of doing it. Another fallacy (there are many) is "confirmation bias", which is when a group of people agree that something is correct, so of course it must be true. Take for example if you went to a KKK rally you would get overwhelming support for racism & bigotry, which the general populations finds to be negative & offensive. In this forum you see confirmation bias all the time... a bunch of posters with similar views either condone or denounce a certain view, so in their minds they are right.
