Question about interview

Hello,

Does the interview and oath happen on the same day? We are in Washington DC area (I am not sure if this depends upon area) If you pass interview, do they give naturalization certificate same day? Can you apply for US passport right away? Interview is on sept 30, and I need to make travel plans by the year day so just cuurious...

Ha, this not only varies with the field office, but with the interviewer at that field office you may be unfortunate to get, wife even questioned her interviewer on this point, but took my senator to straighten her out. Ironically, my wife had to read the oath at the end of the N-400 to her interviewer, agree fully to it's terms, then sign and date it in her presence. What else do they want, she could have raised her right hand as well. No, just another long wait, just move her lips if watched in a ceremony to get her certificate.

It was a battle to the very end for us. Some here were far more fortunate. The last sweat is getting your certificate back from the Department of State where they don't even trust their own agents to verify your certificate is original and just let you submit a copy of it. Then they send that cheap passport, in relative terms overnight where you have to sign it, from the same exact office, stuff your certificate in a thin brown envelop and send that first class mail with no tracers on it. It's unbelievable.

Wish you good luck that includes getting a reasonable interviewer, no long waits, and no traffic jams plus finding a place to park.

Bring your interview form, green card, and all of the original documentation you sent copies of, your interviewer may never ask to see the latter, but may also reject you if you don't bring it. Know the answers to the 96 civic questions, your English sounds good. At the end, when you pass, may ask nicely if you can say your oath that same day.

Wife was told her interview had to be sent off someplace for approval and her certificate comes from someplace else, that turned out not to be true, the supervisor at the field office does the final approval and her certificate was typed at the same office. But you cannot question nor argue with your interviewer, that will only get you into trouble. So let's hope you get a good one.

My friend went a few weeks ago and got everything done the same day with NO problems....There is a parking lot about 1/4 mile away thats free...I plan to get there at 9am and just wait till 10 to enter the building.
