To check the status of your case - go HERE and register/create-a-portfolio (using your EAC receipt number).

Once you've done that - you'll be able to see at least some information about your case.

So you know.. your case/file now has a bar-code on it. Any time that bar code is scanned (if it's moved, handled etc.) that 'scan' is recorded as "Last Updated" on the USCIS site (and in their internal control system as well). It's how they keep track of your file. In short - a touch means someone did something to your file - maybe they looked at it, or maybe they just moved it from one area to another. The USCIS site will show "Last Updated" date - any time that date changes, you've been touched - there's no history of touches, just a new date (no emails for touches either).

Hope that helps..

When I enter case status in check the status in USCIS website - home page, it just tells me that they have received it on Sept 22. Is it advisable to register online before I get NOA1, since I want to be doubly sure that I am signing up for my a/c. Also, does the information you get when you sign up for the online a/c more granular or detailed than the one in the home page of USCIS? Thanks.

9/19/2008 - Mailed I-129F by USPS Priority

9/22 - Mail reached USCIS - CSC

9/23 - Check Cashed

9/23 - NOA1 Notice Date (now wait and pray that NOA2 should come soon!!)

9/27 - NOA1 received by mail

9/29 - Touched (probably to correct typos)

9/30 - Touched

1/14/2009 - NOA2 approved

1/20 - NOA2 hard copy received

1/22 - NVC received petition

1/26 - NVC sent petition to Embassy

1/29 - Received NVC Hard copy

1/30 - Embassy received petition

2/3 - Received P3 from Embassy

2/3 - P3 sent by Courier from India

2/10 - Confirmed that P3 is in embassy's system (called embassy, DOS)

2/23 - Called DOS - Got interview date verbally
