Have a safe and wonderful trip, Cat!

And don't forget all your VJ friends in the middle of winter when it would be a really nice time to invite random people you know on line to Hawaii for a week-long VJ meet-up.......

 - any time! I'm gonna be home sick for Canucks in no time.

We crossed at Blaine yesterday - took about an hour. The visa took only 20 minutes, but the gentleman processing the import of my car, went on a break and forgot to come back. :bonk: So finally after waiting for an hour, I asked another lady, if he was coming back, and she said he forgot. So she finished the paperwork, only took 5 minutes. No one asked for my compliance letter - it was simple.

Got into Seattle about 8pm last night. ThomasJ had a herpes flare up on the car ride, and his eyes swelled shut. Fortunately the vet had given us medicine just in case before we left. So the Virootic worked quickly and his eyes are better today. Thom peed in the car shortly before getting to the border - so we stank to high heaven going into the border crossing. Cause of course it was on his paw and tail, which he wiped all over mom and dad. Shower never felt so good. My poor little Thom.

But we're in the States :D

Going to drop off the car at Matson today, visit with Grandma N, mom and dad in law then off tomorrow. Can't wait!

Hope you're all well.

I think this was moved to the Moving forum a few days back, I guess I'm back in Canada now. So confused :bonk:

So here's an update:

Chris and I arrived in Hilo on Wednesday afternoon. We picked up Dale from the kennel and let Thom and Dale get reacquainted. I thought that Thom would take several days to get adjusted to his new living quarters, but within 15 minutes of getting in the house, he was acting like the king of the place. I think he remembered the smells from his life back in AK, and Dale was a comforting reminder of home.

Yesterday I brought my passport to the SSA office and applied for my SSN. Lady said it should be 7-10 days. She asked why I needed one - and I said I've never had one before. She looked disbelieving and said 'You've NEVER-EVER had a SSN before?". I explained that I was immigrating - and she laughed and looked a little embarrassed - I guess she missed the connection to needing a SSN and presenting a CDN passport.

Thom was a pro on the flight from HNL to Hilo. It was a short flight and I was so worried that he was going to cry the whole time and annoy our fellow passengers. However he just sat under the seat, and had a snooze. Apparently - little Thom doesn't mind the plane as much as the car.

Chris and I undertook our very first joint lawn-care venture yesterday. Chris would weed-whack and I would mow. The lawn hasn't been mowed in 3 weeks and is nearly up to my knees (its 1/2 acre lawn). Reminded me of living on the acreage when I was younger and my parents were too cheap to buy a riding mower, so we'd cut grass nearly every day of the week just to keep up - cause once we were done with one lawn the other would need cutting.

The mowers front wheel seemed loose, so I asked that he tighten it. Well sure enough, after telling him he was doing it wrong, he snapped the bolt on the tire. No more mowing for Cat. . . . Suffice to say, the 6 month old mower is going back to Sears today.

Highlights so far:

1) Driving through the rockies during the Fall. So beautiful!

2) The flight attendant moving us to first class because she was sorry they didn't tell us that Thomas was actually loaded on the plane. I think she thought we were going to spaz - when we really didn't care that much, we just assumed he was on there.

3) Long Island Iced Tea, Maui Style Chips and a hot dog at the Go! terminal

4) Picking guavas, lemons and bananas from the front yard

5) cutting the grass at the end of September.

Glad you and the animal family all arrived safe and sound:-). Enjoy your lovely Hawaiian weather - winter in the Southern States is $easy to take - and you are in the most 'southerly'! Say hi to a volcano for me - I love volcanoes!

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
