travel agency misinformation?

hello! so my daughter and I plan to fly Manila - Detroit - BDL (hartford), my concern is i will have 4 big boxes (checked-in) with me. my travel agent says when i get to Detroit all my boxes will be carried over to my next connecting flight but my husband says it's not true. since, when I get to Detroit I have to take all my boxes out from the carousel and go thru immigrations because immigrations might want to check them and then check them in again and board my flight to BDL. Please enlighten me thanks. I hope I don't have to carry all those big boxes since I have a child with me. easier if there's a porter. huh!

You must be taking Northwest Airlines? Your husband is right. You have to get your checked-in baggages (in your case, the 4 boxes) from the carousel and have them checked by customs official. After they clear you, you will bring the boxes to the airline personnel and they will transfer it to your connecting flight. And no, there are no porters. There are carts though. But I guess there will be good samaritans who will help you. Take care!

January 12, 2009 - Arrived USA, POE Los Angeles

January 21, 2009 - Got married

January 22, 2009 - Applied for SSN

February 11, 2009 - Sent our AOS packet to Chicago

February 12, 2009 - Packet received signed for by L BOX

February 22, 2009 - Received NOA1 for AOS, EAD & AP

March 17, 2009 - Biometrics Appointment

March 21, 2009 - SSN card arrived in the mail

April 6, 2009 - took driver's license exam and passed! (written and road test)

April 10, 2009 - Repeat Biometrics Appointment

April 14,2009 - Received AP documents in the mail

April 16, 2009 - Received EAD in the mail

SEptember 4, 2009 - GREENCARD received

yep! u will have to take out ur luggages at detroit and bring it to the gate where ur domestic flight is. i don't really know about customs coz when i arrived no one bothered me as long as u don't have anything to declare i don't think the customs would stop u..goodluck! and have a safe trip!

Love is an unexpected thing...and when it arrives grab it with all ur heart....it may pass u jsut once.......

They will not really open your bags unless you were chosen at random. But remember the people who ask for the customs declaration card? Those are customs people.

lol! i know customs people.i meant i don't really know how they do the luggage thing coz in my experiences on my trips i have never had any customs official or anyone open my luggages..i guess i had been lucky... :star:
