It is. Its entirely possible to have reasonable discussions with Gary - but he does get carried away with the partisan fanaticism from time to time.

Absolutely - most of the political bickering is the work of die-hard partisans trying to out-do each other with the op-ed articles. Naturally when the generalisations extend in the general direction of other people - its difficult not to take offence.

I myself can get defensive but then when I watch the news or hear actual facts about the candidates, I just get annoyed with both sides and I feel like what's the point of all this. Politicians are politicians. One day they sound appealing, then next annoying.

Every single person above has had their logic, intelligence and coherence attack one time or another.

I am not familiar with most of these posters so I can't comment on them, but I am familiar with GaryC. I disagree with his views but that's not the issue... my issue with GaryC is that he picks & chooses "facts" that support his argument and he completely ignores everything that doesn't. An example I used before was when GaryC spammed the forums when McCain pulled ahead of Obama for 1-2 weeks in the polls. Not a peep when Obama was ahead & not a peep since, but boy did he work overtime during those 1-2 weeks! As for you I disagree with your opinions as well and you seem to have a running feud with Paul Daniels, but I don't think you are stupid or ignorant.

Now the problem with the conservatives here is that you have some extreme right wing posters (Kaydee & VW come to mind) that say some really off the wall and sometimes offensive things. Sometimes these remarks are met with personal attacks and/or insults, which causes the OP to cry like a baby and act like they have been wronged by the left wing, politically correct, radical, socialist, hippy crowd (in their own words). These posters will refuse to take responsibility for their actions and will justify their extreme remarks by attempting to vilify the person they are arguing with. In these cases to say that the root of the issue is a simple ideological difference would be way off base... it's because these individuals would prefer to distort, exaggerate and incite rather than participate in a mutually respectful discussion.

While we're bringing up abortion and gay rights...if you're talking about Pro Life issues, let's also lump Capital Punishment in there.

It rankles me to see people b!tch about abortion yet not bat an eye at capital punishment. Either you are pro life or you aren't. Don't tell me there's a difference because life is life. When you start saying one is more important than the other, then you are playing God. I do believe there's only one God in my religion who has the right to that judgment. If one believes in the New Testament then I don't know how one can justify this.

My dearest sister, I am pro-choice and against Capital Punishment. How do I make sense of it? I don't think the fetus is alive; while a death row inmate is. But I care not much for debating -- each one is entitled to think/believe in whatever they want
