Hi everybody, I understand that we are supposed to send all photocopies of the documents, unless specified "original", so I was wondering, if the affidavits of friends must be sent must in photocopies as well? What do you suggest me?

Can I send only the first very 6 pages of my new passport from Italy where is mentioned also my married last name or you guys suggest me to send all the 35 pages of the entire passport, which are blank since it's new?I thought that sending the other blank pages it's useless what do you think?

Thanks as always for your great help......without VJ I would be lost!!!! Thanks again :star:

Hi Daphne2109,

In answer to your questions:

1) For affidavits, you have to send in "originals", as on the I-751 application form instructions it states "the original affidavit must be submitted". As for everything else, you can submit photocopies, unless it specifically says that you have to submit originals. In my situation I sent in the "originals" for the affidavits, and everything else I just submitted photocopies.

2) In my situation, my Canadian passport is in my maiden name, with the front main page (the one with the photo, name, information, machine-readable codes, etc.) on 1 page, notation about my married name on 1 page, some passport stamps on 2-3 pages, and the rest of the 20+ pages are blank (lol...as you can see I don't use my passport much). There is no need to submit the blank pages of the passport, and I did not submit such. After all, why would they want to see 20-30 pages of blank information? I only submitted the front main page and the page which showed the married name notation, which when photocopied was about 2 pages or so total. Actually photocopies of the passport is not required for the I-751 stage of the immigration process. However, I did photocopy such as to show documented evidence of my married name and to show the fact that I am a Canadian citizen.

For more information as to what I submitted for the I-751 a few weeks ago, you can read the following message thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...c=118868&hl=

Hope this helps. You're welcome. Good luck on the rest of your immigration journey.

Hi Ant, thanks so much for your replies, I will do the same for the passport, because I just renew it and it shows also my married last name too, as I requested that.

I was going to ask you the reason in your very detailed list why you added also the certificate of marriage, is it necessary? I remember we sent it 2 years ago during the AOS process, is it needed again?

Thanks alot!!!!!

Hi Daphne2109,

You're welcome for the replies. In answer to your question: No the certificate of marriage is not necessary for the I-751, even though it was required for the AOS before. But like the same reason for the passport, I sent that in too as it obviously shows that I'm married, there are both my husband's and my names on it, it shows my married last name, and I had an extra copy of it too. As well, the I-751 instructions did leave a provision for "other documents you consider relevant to establish that your marriage....". Lol...and I'm sure that a marriage can fit under this "other documents for your marriage" category.

So if you want to, you can include your marriage certificate. And if you don't want to, that's fine too. Your choice there as to whether or not you want to include this for your I-751 application.

Speaking of the marriage certificate, it makes me wonder why if it is needed for the AOS and for the N-400/Citizenship (if filing under 3yrs instead of 5yrs), then why is it not needed for the I-751? After all isn't a marriage certificate a way to prove a "joint relationship/marriage" which is needed to be proven for this stage of the I-751? Strange, indeed...

Hi Daphne2109,

It's good that you decided to include a copy of your marriage certificate for the I-751. After all, why not, as it doesn't hurt to have more joint information/evidence? I PMed you back in answer to your question about the maiden/married name notations. By the way, is it ok if I post some of that answer here too, as I'm sure other VJers would like to know too, about travelling with a married name notation on their passport. Thanks.

VSC=Vermont Service Center. If you're filing in California, I apologize if I made the mistake thinking that you're filing in Vermont, and you can ignore that previous message about posting on the VSC list. However, there is a CSC status list (it's somewhere on a message thread on this forum) you can post on there instead, which is the same as the VSC list, but for CSC applicants.

Hi Everyone,

This is part of the PM that I wrote back to Daphne2109, which I thought would help other VJers too, in regards to travelling with "a married last name paper notation in a maiden last name machine-readable passport":

"When I added my married name to may passport, it is was only a page notation (actually, they don't do this anymore in Canada, I last heard), as at the time I did not want to pay the extra for a new married name passport. When/if I do travel to other countries, I still have to book tickets in my maiden name, as that's the name that is encoded in the "machine readable" portion of my Canadian passport.

If your passport is in your married name (the machine-readable part), then you can book your plane tickets, etc with your married name. However, if your married surname is "an added notation/P.S.", and not in machine-readable format, you must still use your maiden last name to book your plane tickets, etc. in, as at airports and places like that, they will read your passport using the machine-readable machine, which says your maiden name and not your married name on it. It does help that your married last name is in your passport in some way or other in a notation, as it will make it easier for them to connect that it is the same person with the passport in your maiden name with your green card that is in your married last name. As well, you should bring along a copy of your marriage certificate too, for them to see that name connection too.

As for your airplane miles, you should keep that in your maiden name for now, as the air miles more likely than not is connected with your passport (I don't know about air miles, as I don't have any, sorry). You can though call the air miles company to see if they can somehow make a notation of your married name in your account.

Oh the troubles that women have to go through when they get married and change their last names...

VSC=Vermont Service Center. Applicants send applications to either the California Service Center or the Vermont Service Center, depending on where they are located in the USA when they apply."

Hope this helps everyone else here on VJ too....
