To cut a very long story short.. My wife and I have recently discovered that our cable package we been paying our (also an immigrant) landlord :( for is.. well, illegal it’s pirate cable and we been caught like idiots to pay for it! We called the cable company and requested to get “switched on” obliviously they will discover it’s still on when they send an engineer/technician up the pole. We told the cable company we just moved in and are renting the house… :D

Does anyone know what will happen? Will we get in trouble  ? Will the landlord get in trouble :hehe: ? Will we get kicked out of our wee house?

If you have a copy of your lease, they should be able to see that you just moved in - it would be the landlord who could get in trouble, not you. How are you supposed to know what you're moving in to?

Ah yes, "colorful and adventurous"--how could I forget?

Tracy...that's the problem. The lease isn't, uh, very official. It's a long story, but basically the guy was "helping us out" and we had to practically beg him for some kind of contract/lease. It's not very detailed, at all. :(

I have never heard of anyone paying their landlord to pay for cable, but maybe that's just me. Where I live I had to call the cable company and they came out and installed everything and I pay the cable company directly on a monthly basis.

Ah yes our lease.. it says nothing about cable not a thing just the rate of rent and when our lease expires! When I said we had just moved in I didn’t mean literarily moved in we been here for a while and just didn’t know our cable was pirate!

As Melissa has said, our landlord was sort of “helping us out” he allowed us to pay him for cable and electric until we could afford to change things to our name. We ran more than just a little short of cash at the beginning of our time in America and surviving on only one income makes things even more difficult.
