I like all of ya'll...but if I have a really personal issue I'd tell my best friends!! then I'd have advice that personalized for me by people who know me well but if people need confirmation/advice from anonymous "Strangers" than I say that's fine!!1 Sometimes that can be really helpful !

Maybe because of a few recent really detailed threads, I sit here and am truly amazed at how much people share about their private lives....everything from troubles in the marriage, family problems, health issues, financial woes, etc.... It's not that I think people shouldn't post all these things, and of course I read them and it doesn't bother me, but I guess because I'm pretty private, that even on an anonymous message board, I don't feel comfortable sharing the really intimate details of my life. I guess I'm just curious why people do share so much? I'm sure someone will take this the wrong way...dunno...and again I'm not saying people shouldn't get it all out if they need to. Just curious... *shrug*

I think there is a voyeuristic element to it. Some people like to expose themselves in front of a window or webcam. Others on a message board. The good news is that I don't believe there are any stalkers on our board.

I think I disagree with that. I believe there is a "stalker" type on here so watch out!

as for people sharing their drama ... i love reading it ... makes me appreciate my happy life even more!!

i think it's sad that there are people on here that can't share everything or any problem with their closest friends or family out of shame, fear or embarrassment. i'm thankful that i have an honest relationship with my parents, as does geoff ... there is nothing like it.

as for a stalker .... who wants one?? i'm sure VJ supersleuth would like a new case!!

Totally agree on the parents issue...as for friend, I know I, myself, share MOST with my very closest friends, but they don't need to hear about things like sex problems,etc(although we have totally 'gone there' in respect to ex's etc) but sometimes it makes it uncomfortable later...I know from experience...it does me anyway...probably affects everyone differently. I have one friend who shares ALL with me...and she's great...my closest friend...but when I see her hubby a lot of it comes back to me and it's just like ...gawd, TMI.

As far as people sharing their drama, I realize this is one of those semantics things again, and you didn't mean anything by it...but for a lot of people, I think, and me included....it might BE drama..but it certainly doesn't feel like that to me. It's just real life, and sometimes it's fantastic, and sometimes it sucks. Anyway, I learned my lesson; that's the important thing. M.

Sometimes you can't talk to anyone you know about a problem-maybe you're embarrased, ashamed, keeping it a secret....I mean, I don't have a huge network of friends and family, and when I have a problem I normally like to hear several opinions and thoughts on it, so I ask a few of my closer friends and maybe post on here...I don't know...I guess there are some problems nobody can relate to you on IRL, so you come here hoping someone can relate and has been through the same thing.

I'd get MORE confused if I had to sift through loads of opinions though, a few trolls, a porn reference, some smilies, bickering that each other's opinion wasn't valid, a thread derailment, waffles, smurfs, kumquats, and whatnot..

ahhhhhhh but thats what makes things more of an intersting read Even in a serious subject, I think its great when it can be lightened somewhat. I can remember a couple of times when I was pretty stressed about something and a smiley or a derailment mixed in with advice, would really bring a much needed smile to my face.

Not that I would ever consider starting a thread and spilling the beans on my entire personal life on a message board....but each to their own. I'd rather just play with my smileys.......We're all different.

I tend to share quite a bit more about myself online than in real life. Why? While y'all are real people....you aren't, either. I'll never meet any of you. Ergo, why should it bother me to "tell all" if I think I need to? I've never been a closed-off person. If I know something about a certain topic, I'll give my background, then address the topic. For instance, the topic about used cars. I don't care if anyone here knows that I was an auto mechanic for 11 years before becoming an I.T. Consultant. Nor do I care if anyone here knows that I'm 37, over-weight, greying, with blue eyes and arthritis in my ankles and knees. It doesn't matter. I think what's worse than those who share too much are those who don't share enough; especially when asking for advice. I mean, honestly..... no one knows your last name, your address, what town you live in (if you haven't listed it) or anything. Is someone REALLY going to seach every single "Cindi" in Oklahoma to find you???

On that note, however, I DO have a stalker. When I was a moderator at another board I made a bit of an enemy of a rather unstable woman named Dani. Well....not "rather".....she's full-blown schizophrenic (seriously). Since I own 8 or 9 websites, my name and address are freely available to anyone if they do a "Who-Is" search on any of my domains. Dani has spammed my guestbooks, emailed the members of my message board, sent me hate mail, subscribed me to about 25 magazines, and just generally been a pain in my ###.

If anyone is considering starting up a website....pay the extra for the "anonymous registration" that GoDaddy.com offers. It will prevent stalkers like Dani from bothering you.

And by the way.... it's "y'all". Since it's the improper contraction for 'you all', it would have to be y'all. Ya'll would "ya will", whatever a "Ya" is. (The Y is the only letter used from 'you', hence the apostrophe coming after the Y, not the A.)
