In an appearance in Nevada, anti-gun presidential candidate Barack Obama told his followers:

"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face," he said.

Barack Obama has gone beyond lying about his long anti-gun record. Now he is inciting his followers to lie for him and to be aggressive and confrontational with anyone who will not buy his lies.

The truth must scare Obama, and the truth is, Barack Obama is the most anti-gun candidate who has ever run on a major party ticket in American history. Don't buy Obama's lies. Or the lies repeated by his misguided followers.

If he is repeating outright lies about his stance on guns, I don't see why not. Regardless of the cause, questioning a presidential candidate's veracity is a duty, not a luxury.

BTW, I do not support the NRA, believe the Second Amendment should not be interpreted as allowing civilians to have a gun without being part of "a well-regulated militia", and generally support Senator Obama's previously stated position.

Like any other politician he has to be all things to all people to get the most votes. In much the same way that John McCain (previously reviled by elements of his own party for not being Conservative enough) is courting the religious fundamentalist faction of his party.

It is very important for many Americans to be able to hunt, fish, take their kids out, teach them how to shoot. Then you've got the reality of 34 Chicago public school students who get shot down on the streets of Chicago. We can reconcile those two realities by making sure the Second Amendment is respected and that people are able to lawfully own guns, but that we also start cracking down on the kinds of abuses of firearms that we see on the streets. Great post. But I think Obama was referring to the fact that although the 2nd amendment and personal rights to owning a gun should be upheld, we also have a responsibility to make sure that gun ownership is responsible too. Maybe I've misread the information (not just this thread but other information on the issue) but I get the feeling he is saying that upholding the Constitution is essential while at the same time attempting to educate the public on how not being responsible with your gun is the problem.

I don't see that he doesn't. Believing in the second amendment and believing that not every yahoo should be running around on our streets packed can go hand in hand. Now, if Obama was to say that he believes in the interpretation of the second amendment as the fundis at the NRA see it, then I would say he's lying. Needless to say, I haven't heard him make that statement just yet.
