Being a corporate hawk no less than most politicians in bed with private interests, Obama is no socialist. Sadly the word Socialist and Communist are thrown around and I doubt people have any real understanding of how extremely few people are the type of Socialist or Communist that has anything to do with Stalin or Mao. Being someone who caters to the Socialist Party USA's platform, it's to have an understanding that this is how most first world countries operate, even this one to a larger extent. It would just be nice though if our socialism would cater more to people, not so much corporations as it does now.

When conservatives talk about hating government intervention, then are for the government takeovers that just happened -- you just catered to socialism. So it's nigh impossible to believe that someone with an ounce of logic would denounce the type of socialism seen in countries today. This one just has a specific problem relating to corporations over people's interests.

I think it's worth pointing out that corporatism (where corporations have power and influence over public policy) is one of the key elements of Fascism. Corporatism was fully embraced by the Bush Administration - Cheney invited corporate leaders into a close door energy policy making meeting. Laissez Faire Economics, IMO, leads to such extremes. There has to be reasonable oversight, regulations which can be counter balanced with government accountability and transparency.

This bailout is not gonna happen without the Socialist controlled Congress signing unto it. Wait till the huge price tag that is now in it balloon after they get their greedy hands on it. Socialism is a broadly defined term and you're taking a literal interpretation of it, which okay, if you really believe the sh!t you're talking, then come out and say the U.S. is a Socialist Country. You won't because you'd be laughed off these boards.

Give one example of a government in modern times that is absent of any social programs (public utilities, fire dept., police, military). Total privatization doesn't exist in any government and by your logic that means everyone's a socialist....and when everyone's a socialist then calling someone a socialist is meaningless.

I'm not defending the Democrats by any means - I think you're just plain wrong.

And I don't want to call the Reps fascist - that's the point. Because the reality isn't the same as the sensationalist labels people choose to arbitrarily impose for the sole purpose of invalidating anything the other side happens to suggest.
