Hey all

I have filed in July and I am sure many of us in July want to know WHEN we can get our police checks and medical out of the way.

Would it be safe to get it down now or do I wait till I get really close to NOA2 approval?? :help:

ALSO. I read he will have to make sure he has the MMR, Tetanus (Td) and Varicella for the medicals. He has NO proof he has had this done and getting it from his mum is like yanking teeth from a Croc. Can he get a blood test done to prove immunity OR should he just get them redone (he is calling his OLD doc he had has a child)

HUGS and thanks!! (L)

Every Consuluate is different but most will tell you to wait until you are approved (NOA2) to have your medical. You will most likely need your new case number or alien number or paperwork from the USEM to bring with you. Also, the medical will only be good for so long and you want to make sure it's still valid for when you go through AOS so waiting in probably best.

Most Countries have mandates when it comes to vaccinations so he probably wont have too much of an issue. They will perhaps perform a titer test to check his antibodies.

Russell's medical was almost a non-event. One tetanus shot and some blood work and xrays was all.

Yes, wait until you have the NOA2. Some police records are good for 90 days (at least in Peru) so you wont want to do it all over again. THe medical exam should be done when you receive your package. There is a form enclosed that you have to take with you for the medical exam. Dont get panicked yet!!!! and good luck with the rest of your journey!!!!

Hi Meri and Kai

I waited for NOA2 and then got the police check (I needed the NVC case number, as I put the return address for the results as The US Sydney Consulate with the Case number (the website states that Queensland police check results will be mailed directly to them). I also had to get one from the UK.

I waited until I received Packet 3 to book my medical. When a rang to book it, I was asked to bring the case number with me. This was the NVC Case number - Joe got this from phoning the NVC automated service a few days after we received the NOA2. If that's the case (needing the case number), then theoretically, you would need to wait until your case reaches the NVC after NOA2 and get the assigned number before proceeding with the medical. I got a booking for the following week here in Brisbane, so not a problem with time delay...

I did, however, go to my GP (before even getting NOA2) to get serology checks done, as I did not have childhood vaccination records. This can be done through Medicare, so costs less. I looked up the required vaccinations on the USCIS site - they are age specific, so it's possible to work out what you require. The only one I needed was a tetanus booster. If you do this, make sure that you get your GP to write a letter on the Medical Center letterhead and sign (I also got mine to stamp and sign all the pathology results). The only tests that are not accepted at the medical are the HIV/Syphillis, as you need to take your passport to a pathology clinic that the Medical Examination Dr has referred you to for these.

If it's any help, for details of what is in the Packet 3 email, and some details of the medical, see Posts on our homepage...they are not all listed under the main Posts tab as far as I can see, so you may need to go to Options (left hand menu) > view member posts.
