USCIS Houston Offices Remain Due to Hurricane Ike

Asylum Office, Two Application Support Centers reopen

DALLAS—U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced today that its district office, the LIFE Act Building, and its Southeast Application Support Center remains closed for business until further notice.

However, the Northwest and Southwest Application Support Centers (ASCs) have reopened today and will also open for business on Saturday, Sept. 20 for customers with a biometric scheduled appointment only. Customers without a scheduled appointment are asked to refrain from visiting these centers since they are not equipped to answer general questions and case status inquiries. Finally, the agency’s Asylum Office has also reopened for business at normal work hours.

NOTE: The naturalization ceremony scheduled for Sept 24, at the M.O. Campbell Center, has been cancelled. Applicants will automatically be rescheduled.Customers with naturalization and adjustment of status appointments will automatically be rescheduled. Customers with INFOPASS appointments will need to reschedule. Visit the INFOPASS site in the Related Links for instructions on how to reschedule.

Thanks for this posting! I called the 800 # late yesterday and the lady, who spoke very broken English, was clueless to the conditions in Houston. She said the ceremony was not cancelled, but call back Tuesday.

Thanks to you guys we can try to make a few plans. We are without electricity and it doesn't look like we will have it until next weekend.

My husband needs to go to Mexico for business and was waiting to get the oath and passport. We will all take off now and will keep checking when the oath will be re-scheduled.

If anyone hears when the ceremony is rescheduled, please post it here. Thanks a Million!!!!!!

Since I spent six years of my short life, all of our lives are short, going through three hurricanes, chickened out with all that mess you constantly had to clean up let alone trying to earn a living. Sure, living a block from the gulf was cool, most of the time but when a twenty foot wave comes in and wrecks my hi-fi set that I spent hours building, seems kind of useless. Not to mention everything else that is damaged.

Does praying to God work? Not very well, when God tells you, you are living in an area where hurricanes are prevalent, so if you want to live there, has to be part of your daily life. Then they toss up new buildings just like the old ones, and don't make any improvements to protect against the next storm, so all that blows away as well. Cuba really got hit, and lot's of good people living there, but has a terrible leader they won't get rid of that doesn't get along with our leader, so we don't hear a word about Cuba, only heard one mention on the news about it, one sentence. What happened to humanity? Same with Venezuela with their self proclaimed dictator, but we got one here too our congress can't or won't do anything about.

Can say I am sorry too, but even going back 400 years, that neck of the woods has had hurricanes and many of the natural protection barriers have been destroyed by man, just asking for problems.

Surprised our passport application was sent to New Orleans when we have a much closer office in Chicago, surprised her certificate didn't come back soaking wet.

Wisconsin is crazy too charging an arm and a leg for property taxes on water front property where floods washed many of those overpriced homes away this last spring. No problems here, built my home on top of a hill, with the same rain fall, that wasn't done by accident.

Couldn't believe the many buildings I saw in Venezuela, they use brick with holes in them where the interior is completely opened to the outside world. But the climate hardly goes below 60*F and above 80*F and all the hurricanes go north. Ha, we should make Venezuela a state.

That sucks, I called them up on Friday, and was told nothing but to call the district court. Called all over the city and county and just talked to people who were clueless. Lovely. I wondering when it is going to be rescheduled for. If they are going to lump us in with next months crowd. Oh well. Just add another delay to the process. Although I guess this one is truelly out of their control.

Hoping for electricity today. Come on Centerpoint.

Least our passport was processed on the 13th floor in some building in New Orleans, so my wife's certificate didn't come back soaking wet. Feel he USCIS is giving their people extra time off with pay to help clean up, some advantages for working for the government.

Yesterday we received the same cancel letter that Tumbin received. My hopes for my husband to vote this year are gone since the deadline to register to vote is this Saturday. Oh, well, life goes on and I am still glad to have the oath letter!

Got a call with the choice of going to the oat ceremony this weekend or October 29th. Unfortunately we are out of town this weekend so will be going for in October. I guess my wife won't be able to vote.
