We did not apply for the AP with our adjustment of status, but I do have a question regarding travel. When should I apply for a name change on my passport? Should I wait for the green card seeings how I cannot travel before then any way or do it before? Currently my expired I-94 is still in my passport. I am correct in thinking that when i do apply for the name change I do this through the British Consulate in New York, via the mail? I am a British passport holder. So far as travel within the US I have my State ID which has my correct name.

Many thanks,

Kirsty

I would wait until after getting green-card to amend passport just in case of an AOS interview while the consulate or embassy has your passport.

Also nearest consulate should be able to handle passport. NYC is a long way from Portland, perhaps San Fransisco would be better?

If you do amend passport before green-card, remove and keep the I-94 card is a safe place.

Hi. I know I wrote this topic a while ago and got a useful website because of it (thank you).

I am just curious to know if there are any British passport holders who have went through the process of making a name change on your passport while your passport is still unexpired. I have seen that it is all dealt with through Washington DC and not the local British consulate offices. My passport is valid until May 2013. But it says I will have to get a new 10yr passport. Do you get your original passport back like you do in the UK? This has my US K1 visa in it right now.

Thanks for your time,

Kirsty

Your US K-1 visa has outlived its usefulness, as it has been used...

Hi.

I understand the visa has served its purpose but I'd like to think I can keep my visa, a souvenir of the process so to speak. In the UK when I have renewed passports in the past they have always sent back my old one which has a cut off one corner. I was just curious to know if that is what they do here at the British consulate and was looking for anyone who has a UK passport who has been through this already.

You might find yourself better served asking this question in the UK regional forum
