Hey everybody here in visajourney. I got my Employment Permit today and so happy about it. I'm thinking to get a job very soon so im wondering if i need to get an SSN number cause till now i dont have SSN number. Do i need to wait for my greencard to get an SSN number? Or the USCIS will give this SSN number to me?How can i get my SSN number? Do you think i can work without my SSN number? If no, where do you think i can get it? I'm a little confused about. your help is well appriciated. Thanks

Take EAD card, Passport, and marriage cert, to SSA office and apply for SSN.

Note as K-1 you could have gotten the SSA within 76 days of entering the USA on the visa.

They (USCIS) won't send you a card - you simply need to apply for one. Check here for some tips.

Yup  go to the their office and apply for one. You need to get one and you don't need to wait for your greencard to be able to get SSN. You need to apply yourself.

If you're already married bring a copy of your marriage certificate and ID. Bring also original marriage certificate in case they might check it.

If not you'll have Social Security card on your maiden name and you can change it later.

You can't work legally without an SSN, unless you are paid in cash and that's illegal, also. Your phone book will contain the phone number of your nearest U.S. Social Security Administration office. Once you get the address, go there on a weekday and wait to be served. They don't take appointments--first come, first served. Once you've completed registering (bring the legal documents that other suggest) it will take about 10 days for the actual card to be mailed to you.

Immigration (USCIS) has nothing to do with the SSA. They are completely independent of each other.

It is easier to download their form and fill it out ahead of time, we ended up scrapping 3 forms before I stopped making mistakes on the thing.
