They did respect my stiff cardboard backer and clear plastic envelop, it did come back the way I sent it, did not appear to remove my wife's certificate from the plastic envelop, but was put in a standard A size mailing envelop. Do have a large mailbox, so the postman didn't have to bend it, but nothing on the envelop stated not to bend.

Ironically both the certificate and passport came from the same address.

US Government Official Mail

365 Canal Street, Suite 1300

New Orleans, LA 70130-6508

Even the suite number is the same and there was sure plenty of space to insert in the overnight envelop. I had to sign for the passport, the certificate was stuck in the mailbox, DOS paid $1.17 for postage, weight of the envelop with the cardboard and certificate inside was 2.7 ounces.

Both were sent out at the same time, September 16, 2008, passport was received on the 17th, the certificate on the 19th.

All is well that ends well, I guess, lastly is the social security office, now they can glance at her original certificate.

Hi NickD,

Glad to hear that you got your wife's citizenship certificate back in one piece undamaged and got her new US passport too. By the way, exactly how long did they have her certificate for and how long did it take to process her passport application? Good luck at the SSA next for updating them too.

Ironically, her case status at the DOS is blank.

We applied 8Sep08 and was informed by our city clerk, they received the application on the 10th, but our check wasn't cashed until the 12th, both certificate and passport were sent the 16th, passport was received the 17th, and the certificate was received the 19th. Within the two week promised date for the expedited service.

Wife is a bit unhappy with her photo, some aberrations in her face with the electronic transfer of our photos where her lips and chin are no longer centered as in the original photo, but shifted slightly to the left like in a twitch. She wants that corrected, so be it, if they will. Also doesn't like those wavy light blue lines all over her face, doubt if they will change that.

Hi NickD,

Wow, that was quick that she got her certificate back and her passport a week after she applied. Thanks for telling about your success with that, as I know that when/if I do apply for a passport after citizenship I dont have to worry about things getting lost and/or not done on time. Well, now you don't have to worry about that anymore, since you got that out of the way now. The next step: frame the certificate and don't let ever let another government official touch it again!..lol....

As for the lines on the photos, I think they're security features and cannot be altered/changed. If your wife wanted to change her passport, just remind her again the hassle that you both had to go through just to get this passport...lol...
