hi there,

i'm see this has been asked but i didn't see a definitive answer. my husband is past the one year point for his foreign medical exam. so it is not valid any longer and am now trying to figure out if we can do something to avoid/anticiapte aos problems. so i have a list of questions and would appreciate help:

1) does he need to have a new exam? what form number?

2) if he does need a new exam can it be performed by our insurance or must we go back to the cs for that?

3) he was able to get his i-693 form filled up by the cs (they required him to have a blood test to prove the mmr antibody then they administered the hiv/hepatitis/etc tests)

thank you in advance for any help.

1) new medical if you apply after one year. So, Yes based on your timeline he needs a new one... The civil surgeon will have the forms but it is I-693

2) MUST be done by a civil surgeon

For the foreign medical it was the DS-2053.... Any US based medical is the I-693 and has been for some time and continues to be the I-693

Kang Lang,

We filed AOS for Rin in June, 15 months after her medical in Thailand. Had to go to a CS, he filled in the I-693. Did a blood test and brief exam. She also had to have a TB skin test done (a new requirement this year. Lot's of threads on VJ about it).

The children had their medical in Bangkok last September, so they did not have the exam. The CS completed parts 2 and 5 of the I-693 for them.

So you should be good to go with the I-693, so long as the TB part is correct.

Here is a previous post:

I am sure more updated info is available here on VJ regarding what others have had to do since June.

Best of luck!

John
